Hole In The Wall oatcake shop to close.

It is a great shame as it represents another piece of what makes Staffordshire Staffordshire is consigned to history. It is crazy to think that it is now getting very difficult to actually find an oatcake shop in the County. I can't believe that this has been allowed to happen - you could never imagine not being able to find a pork pie shop in Melton Mowbray or not being able to find a pudding shop in Bakewell. Whilst this isn't the end for the freshly, locally available Staffordshire delicacy it is certainly another nail in the coffin.
I'd love to see an oatcake shop in the County Town, I think the town centre could support one but alas the rents are too high - or the empty unit on the Weston Road where Paws for Thought used to be would be ideal as it is near to me!

My friend's dad opened his oatcake shop in Forsbrook (the one in the middle of those 3) a couple of years ago and does a roaring trade! It's not a hole-in-the-wall shop, but it's a traditional Staffordshire oatcake shop nonetheless. Check out Wobbly's Oatcakes on Facebook and pop in next time you're round that way.

My friend often goes there on a Saturday morning so Wobbly can see his baby granddaughter, and she often comes back with a good few packets of fresh 'uns for us lot.

Not being from Staffordshire originally I remember the first time I came across the Staffordshire Oatcake and being surprised by it being soft and floppy unlike the Scottish variety. Now they're a favourite breakfast treat to keep me going on big mornings. I can't believe they've forced the hole in the wall to close down when it's such a big part of Stoke's heritage. I'm all for regeneration, but they need to be sympathetic to historic gems like this.

I have seen oatcakes, I have smelt oatcakes, I have no intention of eating oatcakes.

There are plenty oatcake outlets but not another hole in the wall. What a shame to let this piece of history disappear..
