I spoke to Maria (who used to run it) a few weeks ago, she said that it closed due to illness initially but they were going to reopen in the not too distant future after a refurb.

That's good to hear, as we live just around the corner, used to go there fairly often as it was always clean and the food was nice (except for the mushy peas, which had less flavour than pure water. lol).

I remember the staff in there telling me they were going to reopen after Christmas but they didn't. We've tried the chip shop at rising brook twice, and the food was horrible! Skin on the fish, and soggy horrible chips.

Sadly the absolute best ship shop I know of is near to Kidderminster, the fish are over a food long with crisp golden batter, and the chips are gorgeous big fat things cooked perfectly and neither greasy nor dry. Worth hunting down if you are visiting the safari park, Bewdely village or Dartfrog. lol

I think the illness was what delayed things.
Much as I think they do great chips, a mega-fantastic chippie is nearer than Kidderminster in my view.
Just off Clayton Lane in Clayton Newcastle. Clayton Lane runs between the A34 and A519.
Fish and chips cooked to order and soooooooo good.
nb - there is a fast food place on the same parade - make sure its the chip shop you go to if you visit, not the fast food place.

Don't know if the following link will work but here goes:

No matter how much zooming and tweaking you do, if you copy the original web address it will take you back to the start.

Having zoomed and tweaked, to the top right you will see three symbols - a printer, a letter and a chain. Click the chain ( for link, geddit?) and the web address for your tweaking will be high-lighted in blue. Right click on it and the option to copy will be given. Left click to copy, paste as and where and (hopefully)

voila.

Fungs on Eastgate Street used to be the best place to buy chips in Stafford.

It may still be so, it's years since i've been there - they are still in operation aren't they? - anybody know?

It's there on StreetView.

Seems to be a barber next-door - do they do pies?

Just drove past tonight to see activity and a lovely pink "chippy hut" sign. Looks like reopening is imminent

I remember the chips well - I remember as a young scallywag this was my food of choice after going to Riverside.

Had high hopes of this opening over the xmas / winterval / festive etc period as every time I went by on way home the lights were on ... only to be disappointed. Any latest news on when it will be open?

Great big notice in the window saying Happy New Year, but nothing else I can see from the car saying when the reopening will be.

Still exactly the same - the lovely pink sign is regularly illuminated, but no sign of opening yet.

Doors were open today and people milling about with a skip/trailer outside.. They had some of the menu signage up in the shop so I'd imagine it won't be long until its open again

Drove passed today and a sign on doors saying opens at 4.30 today
It was open on Friday evening when I was on my way for a drink but unfortunately when i came back at just before 11 it had shut shop. I was looking forward to a takeaway to soak up the drink
