It's not that funny. Or is it?

Best comment i've heard yet being that - and i paraphrase - 'at least he'll lower expectations'.

What is to be made of this?

I think it's a strange appointment considering pretty much everyone in the country & the England squad wanted Redknapp. Woy's done well with West Brom, so let's see.

When I heard the story on the radio yesterday I was rather stunned to hear that the decision had been made by "FHM and David Bernstein", until I realised the reporter had said "F.A. Chairman David Bernstein"!

Also was surprised, but the more I think about it, and a look at the fella's CV (Liverpool aside!), his FIFA contacts, it makes sense! 21 out of 25 people agree with me so far on the Boro' fans forum, but of course their knowledge cannot be seen as footy expertise!:boh:

To paraphrase Tommy Doherty on 'Today' this morning - "I think the FA were probably a bit worried about what else is going to come out about Harry.."

What links Bournemouth FC, Portsmouth FC, West Ham United FC and Southampton FC?

Relegation, financial irregularities, dodgy agents, receivership, tax evasion and, err, Harry Redknapp.

Good luck, Roy.

I think the press wanted Redknapp and they gave the impression that everyone wanted Redknapp, whereas the football forum I frequent seem fairly happy with Hodgson and certainly prefer him to 'arry. Looking at their management credentials, Hodgson wins it hands down.

With the benefit of hindsight, a lot of the people I've spoken to also agree with the decision. When the position became available, though, not a single person I spoke to or saw quoted in the press even mentioned Hodgson!

Just heard him on Stafford FM news (Sky) talking about his relationship with Redknapp since the announcement...him saying "We have become unwitting wivals" makes it all worth it!

...unless we f**k it all up, again...

Much as i admire Harry, i didn't really see him making the top job for the simple reason that, as has been alluded to and not to put too fine a point on it, he's as bent as the proverbial (tax-free) nine bob note. There are bound to be a few more skeletons in that cupboard, and when the tabloids turned on him, which they inevitably would have done, the FA would've looked like idiots. Again.

Roy seems a rather boring choice but good luck to him, say i - and if he does lower expectations then that's all to the good, it's not like England are going to win a major tournament in the near future anyway...

I did consider making a bet on Redknapp not being the next England manager during the mad post-trial furore, but i'm not really a betting man.

If you'd like to give me odds on England not winning Euro 2012 i'd quite comfortably fancy my chances...

Once a barrow boy, allways a barrow boy.

Didn't Venables quit in order to clear his name in connection with dodgy business deals and financial irregularities? It was a London press led campaign for "Sir Harry", Gawd bless him, and as Withnail says, when things (inevitably) turned sour the skeletons would come pouring out of the cupboard. Some of them still with flesh on, Portsmouth wasn't that long ago.

The football illiterate's of Stafford Rangers Forum now voting 29-7 that it was a 'good' decision, not quite representative of general opinion, which seems to be increasingly behind Roy. This will last as long as the first indiferent performance! Let's hope this doesn't come against Begium at Wembly in June, as my son had a ticket for his 16th, and he needs someone to drive him!
