Transfer VHS video to DVD in Stafford

db

#chaplife
my parents are old (obviously, being parents).. as such, they have loads of old stuff on VHS (and some cinefilm) that is full of sentimental old crap..

anywhere in stafford that can transfer video to DVD? please no "buy this USB gizmo & do it yourself" recommendations - i'm specifically looking for a shop or somewhere local i can point them, where they can just hand over a load of old film stock, and have them converted to regular DVD-Videos that will play in any domestic DVD player :)

thanks!

I thought about suggesting gdavies - he did some strange DVD format conversions for me once, but I wasn't sure of his facilities with regard to VHS - if he's up to VHS, then he's the place to go to, definitely..

How many have you got db, I can do them for you but beware it takes the time it takes to watch one to convert one, This in mind if you have a lot of them it will take a while lol. But i charge £1 per VHS which is reasonable enough, I also supply the dvd discs too

dunno, it's for my ol' dears.. i'll ask them how many tapes they've got.. is it just VHS you can do? i don't think they've got any betamax, but they might have the odd cinefilm (i know that's probably pushing it a bit lol)..

and don't worry, i'll get more than a quid each out of them for you for it! that barely covers the DVD-R, let alone the faff of having to do it lol..

cheers homes, 'ppreciate it

i've asked my old man how many tapes he's got, and what format they're in.. i'll get back to you once he's replied

right - saw my dad yesterday - he says he's got "about 10 VHS tapes" that need transferring.. they're not full - i forgot to ask him but i'm guessing that each one probably only has about 30 minutes of footage on it or something.. some of them are really shit quality as well, apparently lol..

is it OK if i get the tapes to you, and you just see what you can do, then let me know what i owe you? there's no rush, these tapes are just gathering dust atm so it's not as if he needs it done within any specific time frame or anything.. he just wants them on DVD to "future proof" them, i guess, so he can view them..

does that sound OK? if it's faff and you can't be arsed, i'll completely understand lol..

hello I have 1 pal tape, approx 85 min-write protected
I have 1 ntsc tape, approx 94 min-write protected
I have 1 ntsc tape, approx 98 min
I have 1 ntsc tape, approx 54 min
Do you think it would be possible to convert them to disc? cool, cheers

If you are techie and have an old VCR lying around you can convert them yourself using something like this video to dvd capture device by MAGIX or this hardware by Honestech. Once it is capture to your computer, you can edit it in any standard video editing software. Once the tape is in okay condition, I've found this to work well. If the tape is damaged though, best to consult a professional.
