Stafford music - Music from or inspired by Stafford

For some reason I happen to know a lot of people in up-and-coming local bands at the mo, so thought it was worth starting a thread about things that are going on in and around Stafford.

Stafford's had a vibrant music scene for as long as I can remember...Stafford FM do a great job of promoting local stuff by playing a tune by a local artist every hour. Don't quote me on that, but I think that's their intention.

So...here's my rundown of what is currently available from Stafford-based (or Stafford-related) bands/artists. Please feel free to add to this!

A good friend of mine (and also forumite dangerousdave) is the drummer in a Wolves-based band called The Lines. They're on the verge of big things having supported Ian Brown, Ocean Colour Scene, The Charlatans and Peter Doherty to name but a few. They've just finished a mini-tour of Britain, headlining alongside The Rainband (who were chosen by Liam Gallagher to play at the opening of his 'Pretty Green' fashion chain).

They produced a great album a year or so ago and have just released a song with a very different style to what they're known for....it's been single of the week on Kerrang and has also been played on many other stations across the country.

Latest single: No Illusions (No Cheap Tricks)

Other stuff: www.wearethelines.com

Another good friend is in a band called Tyler Mae....they've recently supported Enter Shikari, Example and other notable names in the industry.

They released an EP yesterday (14/05/12) for FREE and the first single off the EP features the excellent Eva Lazarus, who is the lead vocalist with a very successful group called Dub Mafia, based in Brizzle. Eva is Stafford born & bred, so there's 2 Staffordians for the price of one for you!

Latest single: Versus White Knights ft. Eva Lazarus

Whole EP: HERE

There's also a lot going on with my brother-from-another-mother Benny Upsetter who is making nice tunes with Dean Meredith of Bizarre Inc/Chicken Lips fame, and I'm sure many others in our beautiful town! Post them here and let's have a listen!

funny you should start this thread mate, i was chating about something along these lines earlier today. did you know that the bassist from the now defunct 'the rakes' was from penkridge?

also, if anyone would like to we (the lines) are headlining the 3,500 capacity civic hall in wolverhampton on december 15th. it's a massive honour to play such a prestigious venue that i've seen the likes of blur, doves, the manics and a whole load more play. come, be a part of history, you knows it makes sense

Stafford has some truly excellent local bands - Pelo, Portables, Cartoon Kings, etc - I'm sure that there's others, too.

Another good tune from a local artist (and forumite) Neon Jay...also featuring Eva Lazarus...

Hibrid - Hold On ft. Eva Lazarus

He's also working on some new things with some very talented Stafford-based singing ladies and you might just see him playing at some local events over the summer.

Hah, nice one for the plug Mr Rex! I shall complete the transaction of bribery with something cold and pint-shaped sometime soon :)

So they wake up hanging, have some brekkie, buy an armoured car off a bloke on the Sandon Road, mash it up in town in the middle of the day, then fight a massive robot on the common with the fuzz in pursuit.
feck me, Stafford was mint in 1992.

mark archer used to be my best mate until i moved away to sheffield and we lost touch.. he's not allowed to used the altern 8 name anymore, cos chris peat got a cob on about it and threatened to sue, but he's still going strong..

he's just released a load of remixes of my favourite ever altern 8 tune, Frequency:

one of them lives next door to a mate of mine, unsure which one as we just refer to him as altern 8.

if he's bald & drives an audi TT, it's mark.. if he's got a cob on cos he makes no money from altern 8 any more (because he's not a dj/producer like mark, and so has no need to use the name), it's the other one lol..
