Staffordshire County Council Office buildings - Wrong choices?

It's easy to see what the councillors think of county landmarks, go have a look at Baswich House on the old police HQ site (oh yeah it was flattened to stop vandalism). I'm sure the two police cars strategically parked in a bollarded off shell with overgrown grass will stop the dilapidation though.

I guessed the police cars were parked there to give the appearance that the building may still have some activity going on inside to ward off prospective criminals - however they haven't moved for 2 months.

....... I'd love to have a nosey round inside....

It also doesn't help with the crazy idea not to install a sprinkler system, who's bright idea was that?
Surely it would be too much money to install a sprinkler system - perhaps they should have saved money on the exec washrooms - allegedly beautiful marble from floor to ceiling!!!! They would do better to repair the pavements in Castletown an absolute accident waiting to happen so uneven and contractors over the years have dug up the pavements and ruined what should have been our soak-aways under the pavements into the road - have a look why dont you!! something like 3 years before it gets done, meanwhile our cellars get wetter and wetter! SCC a law unto theirselves.

After work stopped on the outside of Staffordshire Place, nasty rumours spread that either V-F had gone bust and weren't paying the subcontractor, or that the latter themselves had gone bust (so a good choice by V-F in the first place). Fortunately, these fears were allayed when 'council chiefs' announced on the front page of the Express & Star on 20/6/12 that work had been stopped so that 'they could voice their concerns to the contractor'. Sounds logical, doesn't it - the workers stop so that the bosses can talk? Eh?
Anyway, respect for the E&S for publishing this obviously ludicrous statement - the Staffordshire Newsletter is conspicuously silent on the matter. They know which side their bread is buttered.
And now we hear that SCC is suing V-F for loss of revenue from the ground floor retail units. 1) Good timing, to do it while V-F are struggling to get doe the job that should have been done properly in the first pace, and 2) I expect that V-F will contest this, disputing that SCC would have taken anywhere near the claimed lost rental. Who wins? The lawyers, of course.

Well said Chad and in the mean time, the work drags if not stopped by V-F, the old see you in court type '...we do the work whilst you sue us, erm, NO!' etc etc etc!
...and the conclusion from SCC?, ditch the tiles and do the pebble dash dance, whilst being out of pocket for a few hundred thousand.

Just my educated prediction.

Wildwood Paul is right also regarding Baswich House, it was a delight to look at, but what happens, it's left to rot then some tit decides to report it's a haven for vandals and puts forward the idea of raising it to the ground, jesus!!

It's all so obvious, as clear as day and i'll use Baswich house as an example, if that was saved and done up like the house opposite (Joshua knows the name of the place, he mentioned it in a post someplace but i can't find it at all now!) then that's another building saved and one that everyone in the area benefits, and not just the immediate area.

So, in answer to the threads questions, YES!

I feel sorry for anyone getting married in the new Register Office. It'll be lovely having photographs taken in front of the scaffolding.

Baswich House would be in the way of all the new houses which will eventually be built on the Police HQ. That's the real reason why it was demolished.

Its common nowadays to find a reason to destroy something that just happens to fit in with your future plans. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been allowed to demolish Riverside to make a car park, yet it doesn't look that temporary where I'm sitting (plus they built over tipping street one and needed somewhere to park close to the new building).

I had thought the very same thing - caught between the scaffolding, the hardly picturesque Magistrates Court building, likewise Civic Centre or the wasteland/car park, presumably people walk round the corner to the old place for the photos?

People who marry at the Register Office usually have a photogenic reception venue to head for, like The Three Tuns or The Amasal Club

CHEEKY TWAT.

I got married at the old Register Office and it was a lovely venue and I didn't have my reception at either of those places.
