We kinda need our garden sorted... slabs have come up, weeds (and some flowers!) are everywhere, the wind bluew down the trellace and the gate needs doing too. I said about the wind destroying the garden ages ago but the agents/landlord haven't sorted it and it'd be nice to have it for summer, but it's only little anyways. Wonder if it's worth us getting it done ourselves, though these things cost money... will keep you in mind if we do though!

FTR, back online folks, albeit minus a few contact numbers - no sooner has my internet connection been piped into the house, than my mobile decides to pack up and take my entire contact list with it. One is not amused. So apologies if I've been ignoring anyone on here who was due a callback, chances are I've lost your number, so please get in touch! Many thanks :D

I'm surprised you didn't have it all backed-up through Gmail. It's free and very simple to do...you'll never lose your contacts again!

Which is fantastic, providing you can remember the bloody login details for Gmail... which I can't :( good suggestion though fella!

Finally get to sit down properly and once again sing Jays praises. Our back garden isn't owt showy,it's always been a reet mess. BUT! Thanks to Jay,the fence is lookin really nice now,and we have 2 useable gates. 1 of the cats tried see how well the fencecrete stuff had set, jumpin off the panel and makin it ping all over the place! But it has all stood the test of the high winds we've had lately, the ones the bloke from Cannock did fell down with the first puff of owt.
If you're really lucky,it'll belt down with rain and he'll get soaked then have take his t-shirt off :xd:

No problem, glad I could help!

He certainly didn't hang about getting up that post, did he? Hadn't even got the postcrete in, stop for two seconds for a brew and next thing we know, we have a cat performing highly amusing acrobatics on a less-than-stable post... although the net result hilarious, for want of a better word, am just glad he made it to ground in one piece!

Behave yourself Glam :cops: everyone will want it to rain otherwise!

Neon Jay recently completed some work at my house. He repaired a front wall column, which was about to tip over onto someone and also fixed the wall at the back of the garden where the gate hung off a precarious hinge! The hinge wasn't put back in exactly the right place, but Jay did come back and he renovated the gate so that it worked better on the hinge than it did before.

Overall, I'm happy with the work he did :)

BTW Neon Dad will be coming to fix my patio door soon.

Called Jay Tuesday (to ask if there was a chance to give him money in exchange for services rendered) though i didn't leave a message, i thought he'd find the missed call intriguing enough to call back and find out if it's a potential job for the services he advertises, no luck.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, i called again just after 5 yesterday afternoon, to leave him a message, he hasn't got back to me yet...!

Jay?

Arranged for Jay to come and see the job for (Tuesday) 6.30, he turned up at 6.55, problem is i had already left (i gave him 20 minutes) to go out and my partner had to talk to him.

I haven't heard anything back since, today's Friday.

Any one know of a good Carpenter, or point me in the right direction of a thread that's full of reviewed carpenters?
...saves me gatecrashing this thread, so much.

In jays defence even with the best intentions its not always possible to get where your supposed to be at the correct time. A job taking longer than expected that has to be finished or bad traffic for example can easily put you behind. I will also hold my hand up and say I would struggle to get a quote out in a couple of days.

I'm only saying this as I know both these things are common complaints of tradesmen but I think people forget that we don't always have the time to get everything done as quick as both ourselves and the customer would like. The time it takes to do all the things you have to as a sole trader soon adds up and I feel there comes a time every day when you have to switch off or in the long run you won't be doing yourself any favours.

Please don't take any of what I've said personally 1jkz. Your totally entitled to be unhappy I'm just trying to say it may be worth not writing jay off yet Others have been pleased with him after all.

...still nothing.

The job was small, small enough for me to attempt (a few weeks back) but put off by my lack of care and attention to it, i have now decided to give it a second go!

Rikki, fair comment, but a phone call or txt would have been enough (on this occasion) for me to have held back on popping out, do you not agree?
Unfortunately, i have experienced tradesmen being late, not turning up at all, etc etc and each time, it simply chips away at me ever wanting to attempt to get someone in, to 'improve' my house, at all.

Recession? What recession?

that last bit was said in jest!
