patient confidentiality in hospital

Just to echo the comments here, it most certainly is a breach of confidentiality. Doesn't matter what position you hold, Porter, Nurse, Receptionist, volunteer etc all are bound NOT to repeat anything they here in the course of their job. There is never an occasion where any staff can assume something is common knowledge whether thats a pregnancy, cancer or in growing toenail. Alee, the guys are probably quite right that if you complain that this person has told family members about your reason for being there it could just make problems for you, however, if she has passed on your address and phone number that is far more serious, personally i would complain. By the way, congrats on your pregnancy...

Its a well known thing in stafford.......i worked for a company whos wife was a nurse I was really ill and spent a couple of days in stafford hospital. Because it was my first time off work sick for 3 yrs my boss wasnt happy. The doctor signed me off for a further 2 weeks which made things worse. When i went back my boss told me he knew id been in hospital, for how long and what with!! His wife checked.
I felt pretty disgusted at the time still do even tho it happened nearly 4 yrs ago!!!

Miss Red i am totally disgusted by that. As a nurse (not at stafford though) I hope if this ever happened again the person responsible is reported both to the trust concerned and to our regulatory body the Nursing and Midwifrey Council (NMC).
