Stafford Hospital, Council Tax

ok, so why should we pay all of our Council Tax which supports Stafford Hospital if we are not getting the full service. A&E closed? whats your view!
I think we should all right to SBC and ask what percentage of our council tax bill supports the hospital, and ask for them to deduct a portion as we are not getting a full service, they are quite happy to take the money from us?

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think that Council Tax is involved in funding the NHS - its money comes from the central exchequer, via national taxation, I believe..

I could be wrong.

You maybe right, and I have made an error on who to write to, but I think we should do something

I'm afraid it is our dear friend Mr. (c)Hunt you must address your pleas to.

Good luck with that.

This mentality doesn't work for me. It's been a few weeks since i've seen a police officer in my area, i've never called out the fire and rescue service, it's been about a year since i required a doctors or dentist apointment. Using this mentality i'm owed quite alot of money from The Man.

That is, indeed, one way of looking at it.

There are, though i can't for the life of me remember where, certain marks on some buildings in the town that, in essence, say "I am a building that is insured against fire with X company". When this was the way things were done,Y company rocked up and saw the building was not 'fire insured' with them, having received duff info, sat back to see how long it took X company to come and douse the (what the?) blazes, then bragged retrospectively to the burnt-to-the-ground premises that, had they been with 'CnutCo' they would have been all right.

We tend to forget that the response to this kind of nonsense was to pool all resources available to alleviate the kind of nonsenses that had preceded it. First responder makes, does it not, a good deal of sense.

Or perhaps you would prefer to invest in your own 'Fire Insurance' - and hope your CrewCo gets there first?

But FIRE! is different though, isn't it?

Thats why this mentality doesn't work for me. We all pay into the pot for greater good, or so i would like to believe. So when people talk of refunds because they haven't used a particular service i like to point out how this argument collapses when you actually look at how much you don't use. And the truth is there are lots of services we take for granted that make up for the ones your not using, which are often provided at a loss or breaking even.

I take very little compared to what I put in, but my nan was up until very recently in a care home and before that in sheltered accomodation so it all balances out really.

My trips to A&E have in the past been evening/early hours and I now dred having to go anywhere else if I need to....and i seem to be a walking accident/illness as it were. Bring back our A&E at night!
If we did pay Council Tax for the Hospital I'd def have had my use of it!

Remember that programme a couple of years back where members of the public where given a budget and told run council services. Clueless, spent it all on bin collections or something and were shocked what they had to take into considertation and blew the lot and brokedown.

I think that your council tax bill used to have a leaflet in it telling you what your council tax pays for, I want my money back it any of it was sent to Stafford hospital I hate loathe and detest Stafford hospital and think that it should be flattened. If you’re in an ambulance with blue flashing lights and your asked where you want to go if your conscious say city hospital Newcastle, the staff and medical treatment are excellent
