Has anybody managed to retain the flyer for the MOD Bonfire? It might be useful to put the details up on here..

Is that a Moomin?
Hopefully Mr Rat will still be here and we can enjoy one last fireworks display before he jets off to his new job...

Useless information of the day - I found Stafford Forum whilst looking online for Bonfire Night Events.

Can't believe how quick this has come round - doesn't seem like five minutes I was last there.

I've never been to the MOD one - do they have a website/ whats there?

We went to the one at Shugborough last year and were very disapointed, there was very little there considering the price and the fireworks were 45 minutes late starting.

I'm afraid that it's all rather hush-hush - walls have ears, etc.

I haven't actually attended this one, but I could see the high altitude stuff last year and it seemed quite impressive..

The Open Days have been good events, so it all bodes well, I think.

If timing is critical, then it might be as well to have a look at the signs - that 5:30 time is for 'gates open' - I'm not sure when the barrage itself is scheduled to begin.
Also, might not sudden loud noises precipitate another imminent event..?

Cant 100% remember but I think it was open at 6 for fireworks at 7.30, thinking it would be busy and ther would be plenty to do we arrived at about 6.15, we went with a three year old who was gettting cold, bored and tired when it got well past 8pm and there was no sign of it starting, we headed back to the car after arguing the toss for a refund and the fireworks started just as we were pulling out - so we pulled over to watch them from the warm and comfort of the car. I think there was only a couple of food stalls and maybe 5 fairground rides costing £3 a go. If i remember correctly the entrace fee was about £7 each, which for what you got was a total rip off!

The MOD Open Days have been a quid a head. Maybe Wildwood can remember what their bonfire cost last year - and report on what facilities were available.

I begrudge paying to get into somewhere - when all you can do inside is spend money. If you charge an entrace fee then there should be something included within that price. I know in this case it was the fireworks display but it was like they just wanted the money off you then tried to hold you there for as long as possible to make you spend every penny you came with. It's not about the money either I'd pay £10 each - if you're getting value for money, ie music, entertainment or a even drink or burger included etc.

My birthday is on bonfire night, and I seem to of spent the last 20yrs taking kids to bonfire events which can be very costly. A few years ago we were very hard up so drove to Stafford Rugby Club, parked by the Castlefields roundabout and watched their fireworks from outside the club, on the road with a huge number of other people. We had a great view as we werent squashed into a crowd, and we were able to leave really quickly when the fireworks ended which was great when you have a small child with you as they do get cold and fed up! Very naughty I know, but we still enjoyed it ;)

Always loved the MOD display each year - especially at £2.50 per adult and £1 per child! Can't grumble and the display is awesome.

There's a beer tent usually, hot dogs burgers etc and a bonfire. All I go for is to see the firework display so don't take much notice of anything else.

Hi Bob, the Shugborough Bonfire is run by Stafford & District Round Table and is a 100% charity event.

We are sorry that you had a disappointing experience and we will always welcome feedback. The problem with the delay in lighting the fireworks is caused by people leaving it too late to attend, we then have to weigh up losing a lot of charity money from ticket sales from those still coming in against upsetting those who are already in, we are just a bunch of local guys trying to raise money for local charities and we do unfortunately sometimes make mistakes. We cannot compete with the MOD bonfire prices because it costs us £6,600 alone just to rent the site at Shugborough. On the plus side, last month we gave away over £20,000 to over 25 local charities and good causes and nearly all of this money came from the Shugb0rough Bonfire event.

We hope as many of you as possible will be able to support this great charity event and have a wonderful night in the process.
