Hi fellow Staffordians the names Brian I’m a Stafford lad born and bred went to Silkmore primary and Kingston secondary schools. Served my time as an apprentice electrician with English Electric and went to Stafford collage. My hobbies are music, fishing, and I run a Fishing Forum. I’m also a Burgess / Freeman of Stafford. I’ve played in a couple of Stafford bands over the years and if any of you remember the Surgery I was the sound and lighting guy there for a few years. I hope to have a few conovs with you all in the future. I've just been made redundant after working for the same company for 25 years these things happen in this day and age, any way seeing as there isn't the jobs out there that are Lord and masters in Whitehall seem to think there is I've decided to go self employed and I’ll put a post in the local services if that’s ok with the Admin on here.
Brian.

Welcome both. :)

I’m also a Burgess / Freeman of Stafford.
How do you get that gig? Is it bestowed/inherited, sort of thing, or does one apply?

I quite fancy being able to say that i'm a Freeman of Stafford. There is even a book -
FreemenofStafford.jpg

- that lists them all, well up to a point one presumes.

Then i could say that i am not a number etc...

did you serve your apprenticeship in the town
An apprenticeship of sorts...

Not the kind of one that usually has any kind of honour heaped upon it, on account of being in the most part quite dishonourable. :)

I shall have to wait for the honour to be bestowed upon me for 'good works' or something instead.

I did an apprenticeship at what had unfortunately had become GEC by my day. Can I become a freeman? What special privileges do I get, if I do?

Hi Gramaisc ...As long as you have your Papers confirming that you served your time you can claim by servitude.......as to the privileges most have been eroded away over the years due to the corporation acts in the 1800's If you want more info on how to claim PM me
You can also join the Burgess / Freeman's guild. That's the social side of things as i said PM me and i'll give you more info by the way is free lol.
