Snow and traffic chaos in Stafford, January 2013

"Smug"! Took me as long to clear the car as it did to drive from St Leonards to Castletown. Didnt get out of second, kept my distance, made sure every light and window was clear and applied common sense. Still had a chap in a big blue council bus insisting on using the outside lane on Queensway, which wasn't properly clear.
As far as I know council buses are white, but think Community Link have a blue ex-council bus...

Didn't even clear her windows of snow before setting off, just put the wipers on!
Saw a real beauty this morning - that old classic, don't bother with the snow on the roof and then be surprised when it slides down the windscreen under braking, completely covering it...

It took me 2.5 hours to drive to Cannock and back this morning mostly because drivers kept accelerating and braking instead of maintaining a constant speed. The worst culprit being a driving instructor who pulled out in front of oncoming traffic on Queensville roundabout and then screwed everyone up behind him by constantly stopping for no reason going up Rdaford Bank.

Massive queue as lorrys tried to get up the slope by the Huntington roundabout.

Had to have lunch at the Wildwood until the traffic died down.

Why was Corporation Street jammed going towards Pennycrofts junction this afternoon? I turned off onto Prospect Road to get home as it took about 20 minutes to get from Albert Terrace to Prospect Road! Mystery!

At least the M6 was in perfect condition on the way home.

Oh, and on the way to Crewe this morning a lorry decided to drive in the snowed-over BMW lane for a couple of miles. No idea why.

Possibly people stopping in the 'calming' chicanes because there isn't the space to go through into, thus blocking the way through for people coming the other way? If this happens at two of the three, then traffic is stuffed, as they probably can't even reverse, due to the next car being right up behind them. Seen it a couple of times. Perhaps we need little box junctions there..?

Did the council spread salt on the paths for pedestrians in the Town Centre ?

It had certainly been gritted last night when I was out and about. However, grit doesn't work with large volumes of snow, the snow would need to be cleared first then followed by grit...

Enjoying a drop of red.

Care to name and shame?

Waited an hour to get a bus to work and the journey took 45 mins. Was a nightmare on the rail network today (work at station cafe) good for business though as we were rammed all day and stayed open later than normal, only just got home and having a well earned glass of wine!

Do the maths and get some work boots from Millets, before they're gone.

Anyone know if the buses are likely to be running from Queensville area into town tonight?
Possibly- saw a bus (825?) laying over at Stafford Hospital around 18:30. Also saw a 76 in service heading into town around 20:15 sort of time. As to whether they're intending to continue service, no idea!
