Welfare Reform

Hello,

Tomorrow (Friday 25 January) we're launching a campaign to help make Stafford people aware of the changes brought about as a result of the Government's Welfare Reform.

It will affect you if you're of working age and in receipt or may need to claim benefits.

It's been called the biggest shake-up of the benefits system that we've ever had and it is complex - how you will be affected depends on your personal circumstances, what you are claiming or earning, who you live with and the size of your home.

There's five main strands:
  • Universal Credit
  • Bedroom Tax
  • Non-Dependent Deductions
  • Cap on Benefits
  • Disability Living Allowance
It's going to affect a lot of people and the changes are incremental - starting this April through to 2015.

At SARH, we're trying to help prepare you for these changes. We've put some questions and answers on our website www.sarh.co.uk/welfare and there's a series of roadshow beginning tomorrow morning at the Signpost Centre, Highfields between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

We can offer you free and confidential advice on money management, including:
  • setting up a bank, building society or credit union account
  • organising direct debits
  • welfare benefit claims
  • help to clear existing debts
  • budgeting
  • credit cards and loans
  • home insurance
  • maximising income
  • rent payments
If you can't attend this one, we've got other dates arranged for:
Thursday 7th February (1.00pm – 4.00pm) – Community Resource Centre
Monday 11th February (1.30pm – 4.00pm) – Silkmore Children’s Centre
Friday 15th February (1.00pm – 4.00pm) Rising Brook Fire Station

We'll also add the dates of new sessions to the website as they're arranged.

wanna see my snake?
As long as they never bring in a 'thinking the pm is a wanker' tax I'll be okay I think, as an unmarried male without kids the benefit system is of little relevance to me.
