Scrap metal rag and bone men - Noise pollution that should be reported?

Having recently moved to the north of Stafford from the south I really thought I had heard the last of the most irritating Rag and Bone vans etc. Day after day after day (multiple times per day) I had to put up with their amplified shouts and recordings through speakers. I work shifts including nights and it ruins my sleep. I reported them to the council, The MP's office tried to do something and police but all to absolutely no avail.

Now we live in the north area towards Beaconside and to my horror I heard them going round the entire estate last week as loud as ever.

PLEASE, if people agree with me on this can you either take a photograph of their vehicle on your phone and send it to the Environmental dept' at Staffs Council or make a record of their vehicle reg and details and phone the council with it, who will in turn pass it to the police. I did this last week for two of the vans.

If you work shifts and are trying to sleep during the day you will understand where I'm coming from.

Thanks.

Must admit I haven't noticed them of late. Maybe they're not coming round as often my way.

they do seem to come round a little more often than is necessary..

that being said, when you do actually need them, they are incredibly useful.. other discussion here: Any Old Iron scrap men

When I first heard anyoleirun being blasted out in such a slow manner on the loudspeaker, I wondered what it was,my husband tried to fob me off by telling me it was imam calling the faithful to the mosque !

Yes, no doubt they do provide a service but why not just have set times they come around instead of the noise?

Believe me, if you worked in the public services, and needed a good day's sleep before serving the public on a 12 hour shift, you really would see it differently.

Well I was proven wrong as two came round today. The first with his canned bugling. The second actually playing the bugle but so badly, he deserved to have it rammed down his throat.

Still it's good that they advertise they are coming as it gives people time to close their garage doors and hide anything left out of value.

Yes,that is another way of looking at it I guess.lol.

A colleague of mine had just had a brand new iron garden set delivered and left it in her porch area. She had to go out in an emergency and they had taken it when she got back!

Varies down south but 2 or 3 times in a day isn't unusual.

A few weeks back one stopped outside our house to attend to a broken horn. After he'd faffed under the bonnet for a while he just ripped the horn out, threw it in the road and drove off. Which was nice.

Would've thought they'd have chucked it in the back of the truck.

I agree, plenty of time to close your garage door and draw the curtains.

Good luck sr101, they do come round too much.

...just hope the icecream men don't have the same affect on you!

Thanks LOL.
No I'm OK with the Whippies, generally they don't start 'till all the sprogs are on their way home and I'm usually up by then anyway. Not known an ice cream van come round more than once. Good grief I sound petty :crossarms:lol

I'm amazed there is enough scrap metal to make it worth their petrol costs TBH, especially as at least one seems to come over daily from Cannock!

i had left some scrap metal by my gate last night hoping to catch them today, normally I hear that annoying recorded wail but today nothing, just a knock at my front door . it was the scrapman asking if he could take it away .
it looks like they have been asked to tone it down .
