Old Police HQ Headquarters in Baswich

I see they have started knocking the old buildings down, does anyone know what going to happen to the old site in Baswich/wildwood.

I thought the builder pulled out of building new homes on the site.

They did. I believe a few different house builders have had an interest in it since it became available and none have actually done anything. If they are pulling the buildings down then that might relate to the costs of security and upkeep of the site rather than point to any potential redevelopment.

If the site is completely demolished and cleared then it reduces the potential for squatting /vandalism etc. It also makes it more attractive to would-be developers as they have a blank canvass to work with (at least that is the theory). The same has happened on Riverway where the old Riverway Girls School was (latterly used by Staffordshire CC before they moved to Scafoldshire Towers)

The cost of demolition is high though, extremely high. I imagine such a building has all sorts of cheap thing to dispose of too, so in addition to the blank canvas I should think builders don't mind being relieved of the demolition duties either.

They've been taking the inside out bit by bit for ages now, been watching them taking it out through the windows. Must have cost a fortune in labour even before they started demolishing the shell of the place. Had stuff in seperate piles so must be selling a lot for recycling.
Quite fascinating watching the machines 'eating ' away at the building the other day.

I saw 2 police dog vans parked up by the gates the other day as well, so must still be using the land to give their dogs a run around. (During my running days I always stopped running and walked past there when the dogs were out training. Didn't want them mistaking me for the bloke they had to chase and bring down :D )

Everything moved out of the buildings months ago to the HQ at Beaconside ready for the sale for houses but the buyer dropped out as they wanted the land for far less than asking price I believe.

Who owns the site
Who is managing the site
Who is managing the sale
Who wants more popadums and pickles?

Agreed, but as others have said quite a bit can be recouped from salvage, particularly with a building of that age. I bet it has yards and yards of juicy copper cabling, pipework and other trinkets.
Also once the site is flattened and cleared then aside from a bit of fencing and some lights that is pretty much as far as the security needs to go. With an in-situ building the on-going costs of security, safety and general up keep are infinite, plus any developer knows that those costs are just going to be passed on & then he also has the timescale issues of getting the site cleared and into a workable space - makes it a somewhat less attractive proposition.

I will say it now, so it's down on record.

Prediction: an incident like that of the St Georges site, the trees (that are protected in some way, don't ask me FDR i know OK! ...some anyway) that line the edge of the area (near the two small roundabouts), you know the ones, big beauties they are, will be 'accidentally/mistakenly' felled.

There i said it.

You could well be right, unfortunately. Hopefully this doesn't happen though as those trees are right on the boundary of the site and are therefore not likely to be "in the way" of any build.

A majority of trees (some protected due to being in a conservation area) at the St Georges site were'nt in the way of any build but were still chopped, Christ on a bike MAN!

Anyone else starting to think FDR is a troll, not that i've had experience of a troll before, but the symptoms ring true with this guy ...or gal.

Thats a bit harsh - particularly as I agreed that you might be right about the trees, I merely stated I hope you are wrong as like any sane person I wouldn't want to see ancient wood felled all in the name of identi-kit urban boxes.

'I might be right'?, i said i was right (and hinted at not to comment) and not to question it!!
...but alas you did.

For the record i like your identi-kit urban boxes comment, i AGREE with that, haa.

i'll give you the benefit of the doubt, since you say you are unfamiliar with the term, but you are exhibiting more typical traits of a troll than FDR, tbh :raise:
