love garlic but hate having my hands smell of it

ditto - just get a garlic press, and one of these:

stainless steel garlic soap

if you rub your hands on anything stainless steel, it almost complete gets rid of the smell of garlic.. i have no idea how/why it works, but i use garlic a few times a week, and it definitely does! one of these little "soaps" is just neater and more convenient than rubbing your fingers on your drainer/cutlery/something else stainless steel :)

But, if the garlic press was already stainless steel, would you need another bit of it?

yes, because as i say it is awkward rubbing the whole surface area of your hands on something that isn't purpose built (e.g. soap shaped).. when using a garlic press, the only part of your hands that becomes smelly are your finger tips, from peeling the clove, so it's useful to be able to wash your hands under water and use the stainless steel "soap" at the same time

But, if it's only the fingertips that are affected when using a garlic press, why is it necessary to rub the whole hand surface to 'wash' the smell away?

jesus wept, really?? lol..

it isn't necessary, it's just easier - when cooking, one will invariably wash one's hands in between handling various food stuffs anyway, so it is just easier to grab this little soap, which permanently resides beside the basin, and give one's fingertips a good rub while you're at it..

Lol! You sound as cantankerous as me today Gramsisc!

I have a garlic press, but don't often use it as I like to chop the garlic with salt and press with the knife until it becomes a fine puree - doesn't matter how careful I am my hands still smell!

Thanks for the tip db, I'll look out for the garlic soap :) I believe washing your hands using cold water is supposed to help also.

i think the cold water thing is an old wives' tale, but i can definitely guarantee that the stainless steel soap things work.. they don't eliminate it 100%, but do a near enough job!

garlic clove in a the press > squish > purée > scrape off with knife
