Uttoxeter - a good night out??

I'm in the process of planning a stag do for my friend and am struggling with where to go in the evening.

During the day we're going to Uttoxeter Races to quaff champagne and lose money, and there's also a beer festival on at the same time. As we're all past the age of wanting to get smashed at a club and then tie the naked groom to some railings, we're looking for somewhere good to go for a nice meal and then a pub crawl.

Seeing as we'd already be in Utcheter it would make sense to go out there instead of travelling somewhere else, but none of us really have any experience of the food/nightlife offerings...and from the people I've asked so far they've all said it's a bit of a backwater which wouldn't really suit our needs. Another option would be for us to go to Stone, which a few of us know pretty well and has quite a few great restaurants and pubs.

Can anyone shed any light on what Uttoxeter has to offer for a group of 30-somethings?

I work everyday in Uttoxeter and have done for two years. My view on the place is that it's pretty rubbish. Nightlife – you'll be lucky.

My views aside, I hear the local Weatherspoon's is popular after the races, and the local pubs in the market square have spill overs.

Burton isn't too far, and that just perfect for a stag do, but the taxi home could be a tad expensive.

lived in rocester/uttoxeter for around 20 years.
rjs is pretty much on the mark to be honest , you have weatherspoons and dapple grey pub and a few other small pubs and virtually no nightlife unless you want to go see a movie, ice skating or ten pin bowling.
theres a Frankie and bennys for meals as well.

Why not start drinking a lot lot earlier than the racing card and pretend its a night meeting and its in Iceland on the longest day, and then go home

I hardly ever log on but I have to for this.

I lived near Uttoxeter for a fair portion of my life and although I have never run into trouble myself, I would say as a group of thirty somethings from out of town who will be more than a bit merry and laughing loudly (not inferring that you talk/laugh loudly when drunk dude:toot: ) you should not go in to town after. Immediately after you would be no different to the other out of town racegoers but as the evening wears on....

Go to Stone mate. Besides anything else, you like your food and presume your pals do- Stone wazzes all over Utch (and 'ford let's BH) for that.

Actually, I was lying about the volume of your drunken patter/ laughing.

I salute you for it ! Don't ever change. :stafford:

i'm the alleged "friend" mentioned in the OP and, whilst this might be hard to believe, i am even louder than andreas when drunk, so i think you may well be right vis a vis the (in)appropriateness of us descending upon sleepy uttoxeter post-shenanigans!

you're not wrong..

sounds like stone it is, then!

Could I just clarify, were you seriously suggesting a night out in Uttoxeter? I just assumed you were being ironic.

Why not go Wolverhampton races then go for drinks/food there. Only 15 minutes on the train and you're sorted!

Haha, yep! Well...a friend had suggested that we go there, and having never really been there myself (and I've never heard anyone mention going out there...which was probably a good indicator!) I thought I'd just see what opinions were.

They've been pretty unanimous, so we're definitely going to Stone.

Be safe guys take some condoms, masking tape, bondage gear, handcuffs, ky jelly (you never know the stag may get lucky) but remember to seal his debit card to his chest with wax so he can rip it off and at least get back from Glasgow..... suggest train timetable is strapped to his legs with strong adhesive tape..... Sounds like I've done all this before.... lessons learnt!
