Examples of poor driving you have witnessed!

That's a common manoeuvre there - few people look at the actual lane markings. It's generally assumed that "the left lane is for Stone Road and so it's your fault".

I know somebody that was pulled up by a copper for using the left lane there to head into town - she offered to bet him his week's wages that her manoeuvre was legitimate and would be shown to be so, if they went back to look at the markings - at which point he found that had more important work to go to - parting with a "well, I wouldn't do it like that"..

Hopefully my growling will be emblazoned in her mind. Mrs King said that I would have come across as very intimidating. That is true, but in my view a few sharp words are better than a potential trip to A&E and an insurance claim.

I nearly had an accident last night due to the careless driving of a lady in a 4x4 BMW. I was in the left hand lane on the Eccleshall Road at the Greyfriars roundabout turning right towards Stafford town centre. She was in the right hand lane turning right. As we are about to come off the roundabout she switches into the left hand land almost sending me into the railings by the Waggon and Horses. She had a passenger in the left hand side of the car who could have been injured had we collided. I followed her up the Sandon Road and got out of the car to speak to her when she pulled up at the lights. She was completely oblivious and unapologetic. Her response was "Well I didn't hit you did I?" at which point I told her I was doing her a favour by avoiding a future accident.

The road is clearly marked and it is correct to be in either the left or right hand lane if you want to approach Stafford from the Eccleshall road part of the junction. However, the road lay out is dire and causes confusion, like most of the road lay outs in the the town centre you need to know your route really well if you want to ultimately end up in the right lane further ahead. You can't assume that the other road users know the road and have to consider that someone unfamiliar with driving in the town will end up in the wrong lane and panic.

The only time I really get annoyed is when people purposely go into the wrong lane to jump queues.

Indeed, it would be better if both lanes had right-arrows, rather that straight-ahead arrows - it's been a long time since you could drive into Rowley Street from that end.

Agreed, but I set off onto the roundabout before she did so she must have seen me go past the Stone Road exit.

People are always doing it, & I agree it's really annoying NAND dangerous but I can kind of understand their confusion, it's the road layout /planning that is appalling. Sometimes I think the traffic would flow smoother with single lanes in some places.

How do I edit this?

In my experience, most town centres are laid out, so that by the time the signs or markings tell anyone unfamiliar with the area which lane they need it's already too late to get into that lane without a ridiculous manoeuvre.

I've just seen somebody turning right into Riverway here, despite the sign and the No Right Turn written on the road a bit further back.

Even less impressive was the copper having to drive round her - without so much as a withering glance...

It always amuses me that cycles are allowed to turn right there - has anybody tried it?

I've turned right there on a push bike. It's not for the faint hearted.

Next time I wanted to go down Riverway, I used the pedestrian crossing as I felt it was safer. The pedestrians didn't appreciate a car on the footpath though.

Beaconside roadworks today-the 5 cars in front of me went through on red but (tempting as it was to tag on the end) I stopped.
The lorry behind me stopped.......................................Then a black car came racing past , overtaking both of us, doing well over 60/70 mph and straight through the red lights.

Yes have turned right there on bicycle many times. Invariably some (presumably illiterate) idiot in a motor vehicle yells at you that you're not allowed to turn right even though the signing clearly says "except for cycles"

Blonde woman in a silver Rover/MG hatchback thing KY04 UOX driving behind me on the A519 between Eccleshall and Cotes heath at a varying distance of approximately two and ten feet. There were a line of cars behind a lorry all keeping decent distances apart, why she felt the need to drive so close to me that I couldn't see her headlights most of the time I do not know.

Half of me wishes she did hit me, there would be ten witnesses behind her in the queue behind the lorry, she'd be lucky not to be prosecuted.

I suspect I have missed the new legislation which states: "Car drivers may not indicate which way they intend to turn more than one second before they maim a pedestrian".

A minor whinge I know but it's only a matter of time before the world is neglecting to indicate; not unlike the phenominal rise in cyclists on pavements.

In Stoke, indicators are only used in the "hazard warning lights" mode, and then only in order to park on double yellow lines.

Many of the German 'prestige' brands have not offered indicators as standard equipment since the '60s, I think you will find.
And the drivers have the ability to park correctly removed when they collect their 'prestige' car.

My new 'prestige''* german car is finally due to make it here from the fuherland tomorrow, I shall report back on how it has affected my ability to park and indicate :p

*I know Audi drivers are considered to be the new BMW drivers, but I do not personally consider Audi a prestige brand so it may have no effect on me.
