City Tyres

I have heard the owner of City Tyres (by the Shoe Shed) has been arrested for selling illegal/dangerous tyres.

The place was closed earlier.

Has anyone heard anything about it?

It was on Midlands today last night, though not sure if they named and shamed as I wasn't really listening.

It was also on Midlands Today last night. Chap wasn't named but it is him.

Anyone who's bought second hand tyres off him really needs to get them checked by someone else.

Mind, anyone who buys second hand tyres in the first place really shouldn't be driving a car.

A bit of a strong view on all second hand tyres. Not everyone can afford £300 on a set of boots for their Astra. Firms like Premier tyres can give cash strapped motorists perfectly legal and safe used tyres in order to get to work etc. The real issue is people not checking their tyres for both tread depth and pressure on a regular basis. Even the brand new tyres you champion are killers if not properly checked.

Second hand does not equal dangerous.

It apparently does in this thread. Did you see the report on Midlands today?

True if you are very picky about who you do business with and look very carefully at what you are buying then you can get some decent part-worn tyres, but most people don't look at what they're doing and just care about the fact they are paying very little for something so crucial to their safety and, more importantly, the safety of others.

No doubt about that, if someone is wilfully selling tyres that are illegal / dangerous the they should be shut down and prosecuted. Badly run firms can be found in any industry and do not however reflect the whole partworn tyre sector.

If a car is scrapped for non-tyre-related reasons, is it unreasonable for another vehicle to continue to be driven around on those tyres, as the original one would have been, had it not been scrapped?

The way that I see people slamming tyres up kerbs these days gives me little faith in tyres that are still owned by the original customer.

I don't think it's quite black and white...

I'm sorry to say we do see a lot of problems with part worn tyres which are newly fitted just before mot time. The two main problems are firstly the fitting of a mud and snow tyre on the same axle as a road tyres and part worn tyres which are so worn they crop up as advisories much to the disgust of the customer. I have no issue with part worn tyres myself. I'm glad that the more cash strapped motorist has an alternative to driving around on old threadbare tyres. That said, you get what you pay for and I'd advise getting any newly fitted part worn tyres checked properly just in case. Most are completely fine but as proactive correctly points out, they're the only thing keeping you on the road.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Why would anyone trust their lives to tyres with a history unknown to them? I wouldn't.

I've
Is he place which has a sign on Newport Rd "Tryes from £10".
i was told by a customer this morning about this site he said take a look. I can't believe what I'm reading, I sell perfectly good tyres, and if you have the time feel free to come an take a look at what I sell. Every customer I've had the pleasure of doing business with has left the premises happy. I was arrested and not charge!! Why no charge if the evidence is supposedly up for sale??? Why was allowed to open back immediately ??? You have to ask these questions. As I said, if you have the time, come down and meet me for yourselves. City tyres
