this looks quite swanky.

does anybody have any more information on the footpath?
The most important bit of information is that it'll be no bloody use unless they raise the path level by at least six feet, especially under the Queensway bridge. Then it might not flood.

But then it would only be usable by dwarfs, pixies and other wee folk.

Whilst a nice idea, I can't see it changing peoples transport habits. If it linked through to the park it would be much better, but as it terminates at asda most people would just drive there and park up anyway surely? Once the old Tesco site is redeveloped it may be different though ?

The path will eventually go all the way to Bridge Street and the whole length will match all the new stuff through the park. The third section from Bridge Street, past the council and down to Queensway will be done as part of the big new development that used to be the Riverside baths and Tesco. The Queensway to Fairway section will extend the good path right up to Fairway and make a much better cyclepath mening there will be a full off road path from Baswich into town. There will also be a link from the new path to the back of the new leisure centre so people can cycle or walk to it without having to use the A34.

As for flooding - it's a riverside path and sometimes it will flood! It's only a couple of times a year and the new surface won't get washed away. I guess 95% of the time it will be open, maybe more. Great Bridgeford floods about as much but peole still live there! We live on a marsh - get over it.

Sounds good, shame there isn't a way to join to the actual park but hey ho. Can't really knock the bridge down I suppose. Still think the Yard would have been a much better place if it was open to the river, but instead they put a disabled ramp across the front of it.

This sounds a little like an urban myth, but thought better to mention it and let you know...

This week in Asda a small child went missing from her Mum in the store, the staff made the usual announcement over the tannoy.....The mother of the child went and watched the main doors whilst the staff searched the store, she spotted her daughter being walked out the store with a Polish couple, the child had been re-clothed and had her hair cut in the toilets. The couple were arrested.

My hairdresser told me this, which came from her Sister-in-Law who works there :q:

sounds like the old "kidnapped in a shopping centre" ubran myth, which invariably comes from a "friend of a friend"!

obviously, with kids, it can't hurt to be too vigilant, but if this is true then we will defo hear about it in all the local papers.. in fact, given the fact that the alleged are "grr - foreigners :grr:" i would expect a story like this to turn up in the national tabloids if there were any truth to it!

I had a word with the Asda 'Oracle' who reliably informs me that this is a myth which originated at the Tamworth Asda. There have been a few people asking about it but there is no truth to it whatsoever.

Anyway, if it was true I'm sure we would have heard about it, not just in the local press by now.

My mum works ther and hasn't mentioned anything, and I regularily chat to one of the staff there who also didn't mention it. Was quick to mention the chav shoplifting gang (saw one of them get nicked), but no kidnappings. Sure most kids would scream blue murder if someone took them, not all admittedly but if you try and dress them up and cut their hair you'd hope they were a bit suspicious.

Scarmongering xenophobes me thinks, with Poles just being todays targets of choice.

reminds me of those stories that went round a few years back where a "friend of a friend" did a good deed for a random asian woman in the street, who in turn thanked her and cryptically warned her to make sure no "loved ones were in birmingham on such-and-such a date" lol..

thats the annual meadowhall hoax.

asian person drops purse/wallet and finder is warned to avoid meadowhall over christmas.

umpteen calls every year- usual bandying on the local forum- and still nobody blows the bloody place up.

its nicknamed meadowhell for a reason.....and at christmas theres never been a truer word spoken.

*maybe a cynical reaction- but given the local furore about the BNP campaigning in the area, it mighty clever timing for this sort of rumour* :raise:

No but if you had asked me to try and guess which area it had happened in then thats where I would have said.

In the interests of safety and friend of mine was recently attacked at the other end of West Way by a group of lads egging on another lad to punch my friend. Suffice to say he got hit and his mouth cut. I think the only reason we were all ok is there were more of us then this little shit and his mates. The point is be extra vigilent in these areas at the moment because the little darlings we all pay for with our taxes are comign back to say thanks with their fists, knives and melee weapons.

I hope that poor lad (and his friend) make a full recovery :(

Jeepers... surely they can trace the car from CCTV if the windowscreen is smashed?

I've no idea what area of Stafford that is but sounds lovely.

A is where it all kicked off (well that road)
B is where he collapsed (Co-Op in Rising Brook)

To the north is the Town Centre.
