Tap and spile gone to pub heaven

There's another thread on this floating around and I think someone mentioned it will be just going to new management, though I don't know how quickly.

I did notice the sign outside makes a point of saying the owners have only entered to make it safe, not to end the tenancy. In capitals no less.

a shame its closed, used to be a crackin ale house, though recently it felt really grotty and not a nice place to be. swift one, then on to the next pub.

Probably to cover themselves for business rates. Normally if a commercial landlord makes a 'Peacable Re-Entry' the lease would be terminated from the date of entry and the landlord would be responsible for business rates going forward until a new tenant is found. By specifying another reason for entering they will (hopefully) have absolved themselves of this responsibility.

Bringing this back from the dead but relevant if anyone knows who owns it now:

One of the alarms there has been going off all day and it isn't one of VPS's (the security company) so they can't do anything about it because there's asbestos inside. I have seen people in and out a lot over the past couple of weeks though but I can tell what they're doing.

There's been people going in and out for a while, as you say, and lights on behind the screens, but it's been hard to see what the activity has been. Nothing too substantial, though, by the look of it.

Introductory rent do a good job and we will price you out.
Happened to my uncle. He turned around a failing pub, they (owners) increased his targets (and rent) until he couldn't afford to keep it any longer. He had even ploughed some of his own money into it, too. Shame.

To be fair, it would be nice if one of the local pubs at this end of town did food, which I believe the Tap used to do?

Food has occurred there in various incarnations - the facilities and space are there...

..just need the custom..

Its Saturday afternoon and standing room only in the greyhound. The customers are there, if the establishment is right. Just gotta give the punters what they want, rather than what the pub company tells you they want.
