Not Stafford but certainly Staffordshire: http://www.innescheese.co.uk/index.html
I used to visit their farm weekly because they very kindly took some of my eggs to a ridiculously posh deli in London along with their cheeses. They also had a pet ewe which was the fattest sheep I'd ever seen - she used to wait outside the dairy and scoff the whey.

Some years ago and at a loose end one Saturday I decided to get the bike out and go find some Wymeswold cheese. Got to Wymeswold and found there was no such thing. Bah. Carried on to Melton Mowbray and got a 'genuine' Melton Mowbray pork pie which was quite disappointing.

Love cheese, food of the devil I call it.

Roquefort
Stilton
Danish blue
Lancashire crumble (brings back childhood memories)

Funny cheese subject has come up as looking to make cheese boards for 120 people for my wedding. Was going to use Bertlin but they no longer trade so just called Colston Bassett , Thank you stoofer34 for link and they have been great. That is now the blue cheese sorted

Can any one recommend any one local for other cheeses?

Did The Spittal Brook used to have a monthly cheese night? Or was it another one of those dreams?

Pretty sure I remember seeing signs for that.

For me it depends what else is on the plate, some cheeses go where others do not. As an example I normally think german processed cheeses are rather bland, but at the wedding last weekend I had some onna stick with black forest ham and a cocktail pickled onion and it all went rather well.

I don't do blue cheeses though, never found one I liked. I'm more for a nice creamy wensleydale or a very mature cheddar.

What Staffs cheeses did you find?

And where can i get some a bit closer to home?
Hartington Blue - made from milk from Staffordshire cows
Black and Blue from Leek
Staffordshire Cheese company cheddar and one with garlic
Then a cheese like a Snowdonia Black Bomber can't tell you what it was like as it was consumed by others at home before I got a try :-(
Plus others but it would have looked sad and greedy to have any more

Yes Bertelin's is sadly no more and as they had European PDO Status it is very sad

We had a tasting last week of Mr Moyden's - great event and fantastic cheese also it's suitable for vegetarians - just saying

If your visiting pop into The George at Alstonfield - great pub & fantastic food, please don't tell everyone or The Duncombe Arms at Ellastone on the road from Uttoxeter to Ashbourne - again don't tell everyone as I like to eat out incognito

I think the black bomber is made by the same company who make Amber Mist- a whiskey flavoured cheddar. I got some from the Stone food festival and it's bloody lovely it is.

This thread is leading me astray. I can't resist cheese, it's one of my favourite foods and Port is the perfect accompaniment so have just had some wensleydale with pineapple and a nice glass of Dow's - I'm supposed to be on a pre holiday healthy eating kick too :(

Heartily concur with the Black and Blue from the Staffordshire Cheese Company. They have a stall at the Farmer's Market so, tomorrow is your chance to give it a go.

More likes: Yarg; A Cornish cheese from Freesian cows which is covered in nettle leaves. Varying textures between just below the nettle leaves and towards the centre.

Cashell Blue: A delightful creamy blue from Tipperary, possibly for those not yet enamoured of a blue.

Vignotte: A high fat French cheese; wonderful when eaten with strawberries which have been marinated in balsamic vinegar (for not too long).

Isle of Mull Cheddar (Available from David South Cheeses I think) A very tasty and very mature cheese from...guess where. A near alternative is: Mull of Kintyre, available from Sainsbury's.

Hang on, there's going to be a cheese festival? That's brilliant! I adore cheese. It is why I could never be vegan. Have you tried Mr Moyden's? All unpasteurised and vegetarian. Made by hand, just outside Newport.

Back in the day when Newport had a really good cheese shop, you could get Llangoffan Farm cheese, made by a viola player in the Halle Orchestra.

Goats' milk cheeses are always gorgeous but it can be hard to find vegetarian versions, particularly the soft cheese.

If anyone else is crackers for cheese, try making your own - the kits from bigcheeesmakingkit.com look very tempting.
