Pot holes in roads

Because - certainly in part - local councils have had their funding drastically cut by the Conservative Liberal Coalition Government , the road situation has got so bad that local authorities have said they will now close down roads where the state of the surface becomes dangerous

Some of the comments on that site re the notoriously horrendous ASDA roundabout are very fun. On a more serious note, are there ANY plans to resurface this road that anyone knows about?

Report it and see what happens... the more reports the more attention it should get.

i didn't realise it was notorious!

mrs. db was driving home from yoga the other night and went through such a belter by ASDA (which she couldn't see, since it was pitch black) that it punctured her tyre.. i had to change it the following morning (first time i changed a tyre in my life, 07:00 in the morning as i was trying to get ready for work :grr: ) just so that she could get the car to AA Silencers in the hope that they could squeeze her in, unannounced, check for damage and change the tyre

(they could, despite being rammo - thanks AA Silencers :buddy: )

Noticed the mass of holes by the bus stop outside The Sun has now been fixed, only taken them... 6 months at a guess.... Looks a very dodgy repair but better than nothing I suppose.

Given the broad spectrum of public services, and some really important ones that are going down the toilet, what is the obsession with pot holes? There are much bigger and more important priorities people ought to be worrying about.
On the subject of pot holes, it's easy- don't drive your car into them.

You're right (never thought I'd say that!), it is easy to avoid them but whilst I'm swerving to avoid the potholes I'm causing a danger to other road users, what happens if a cyclist is overtaking me when I move suddenly to avoid one of these craters, or god forbid a cyclist hits the pot hole and falls under a car?

The roads are supposed to be maintained to a safe standard.

Why didn't I think of that before, how stupid of me!!!

I challenge you to drive around the big roundabout (island?) by Asda / North Walls without driving into any form of broken road / hole..... you'll need a hover car to do it!

Don't take the bait. Henry Scat is just searching for another thread he/she/it can derail.

I do so pretty regularly and haven't disappeared into an abyss or damaged my car yet. There is one pot hole iirc exiting into Queensway but not difficult to avoid.

Obviously this will be of no interest to Scatman but I noticed a HUGE pothole on the humped back bridge on Baswich Lane this evening. Right where you more or less have to put your car wheels and, more importantly, where you would ride a motorbike if heading towards Baswich.

Yes, I reported the one on the canal bridge on Baswich Lane yesterday on the County Council website, might be worth others doing the same! It is right where your wheels go and I think it is deep enought that it could unseat a motorcyclist. After seeing the damage my step-dad managed to do after coming off his bike due to a pothole, I thought it was worth trying to get them to do something about it, it's very difficult to avoid!

Better to report it on Fixmystreet, as the information is then in the public domain and SCC can't brush it under the carpet.
