I noticed a while back it always seemed to be shut up - but admittedly I only do go past in the day. Never been past there at an evening....

Its closed, I went in a few months ago and they said they were just running the stock down before leaving.

Fair enough - I just spent so long sitting at the lights just now that I had time to survey the area thoroughly.

Have the lads with the car-wash on the BP garage forecourt gone, too?

Yeah, me too, but had never heard that Pizza Hut did such a franchise, now there's the Alfro sign aswell as.
Be open soon enough, hope they do skinny fries.

It's a PizzaHut Delivery franchise - I think Alfro are the shop fitters

On the door of the Fireplace shop it states that the owner is unwell which is why it is currently closed. I was upset to see that the lovely Creative gift shop next to Spice Island has closed down. It was such a great shop with some lovely items

I am sorry to sound harsh but do people not do a business plan before opening up?? I can see a place open and I can see it will not work. You have to make so many sales to pay your overheads. Simple fact.

So many places fail because they do not work this out before they open, how many customers on a monthly, weekly daily, hourly basis they need in and their average spend to cover their overheads and then be able to draw a wage to survive personally, to match or exceed what you would earn if you worked for some one else (without the stress of working for yourself). So you need footfall.

I have a real issue with some of the advise out there. People are advised to go into business, they get loans, spend their redundancy, inheritance or what ever and can only survive as long as their funds do not run out and not only does it kill them financially but very often emotionally as well.

The government are all for encouraging people to go into business but for them it is money being circulated rather than it being saved. As soon as some one gets into financial difficulty there is no help from any one.

I am always sad when a business closes but I am also sad and frustrated when I see a business open and it is obvious that they are unlikely to survive. I want to scream at them Don't do it!!

Footfall is a killer, my OH has a shop on Marston Road and footfall is none existent since the post office closed.

It is very frustrating if you take on premises based on what is around you and then that changes affecting your business. I hope it has not affected your Oh too much

To be fair she took it on after the post office closed, but we did think it was a bit busier. Luckily a lot of her business is appointments, but the other shops in the street have all said they hadn't realised how much trade the post office had generated.

I saw somebody pull up to a stop across the road and veritably leap out of the car in order to stare at something in her window the other day - it would have looked like a raid if the post office was still there..

Excellent, those LEDs were a good investment!

There used to be a commonly held claim in local news that there was a greater variety of products on sale in Marston Road than could be found in London's Oxford Street.

Several decades later I can see that somebody had doubtless been taking the p**s. At the time I was young and naive and I am ashamed to admit I was one of those who committed this to print.

There used to be some great shops up there......do you remember Fit bits? She used to manufacture and sell dance and fitness wear

Yes! I had lots of stuff from her. Margaret, I think? You could choose any colour and design and she would make it up for you.

Don't know if previously mentioned...... Just heard Marshlands Special School on Wildwood is closing and relocating to Second Avenue in September.
