Reg Horne's shop in the 50's (corner of Blakiston Street / Prospect Road)

This has been mentioned a couple of times on the forum before, but our back garden used to be the home of Reg Horne's shop (a long wooden shed) in the 1950's. I've googled the hell out of it but apart from it mentioned in 2 newsletter articles about "memories of the past" I come stuck.

What I am really hoping is that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE out there must have a picture of this? As it is a bit of history of the home that I live in I think it would be great to have a picture to print and frame as a talking point for visitors.

Therefore can everyone that knows anyone in the Coton Fields area that would have been around in the early to mid 50's please ask them if they have any old photo's etc that may have pictured Reg Horne's shop. I couldn't offer much but would certainly offer a bit of "free repair credit" to anyone that goes the extra mile to helping to track down a useable image.

Thank you :)

When did the shed go? I have a very vague memory of something being there, but I may just have been told about it when a nipper.

Apparently he moved to "top shop" up the road in 1955 and his daughter owned the hairdressers shop next door.

Unfortunately I was only 10 when he moved and didn't have a camera till I was12, the nearest shot I have just shows the gas lamp on the corner of Read ave and a bit of the front of your house.

A chap down the road from me has kept a detailed photographic record of many aspects of life around Sandon Road and its environs, since the war - but, he never got a picture of the shop, unfortunately. He says that it was a source of fireworks, when such things were difficult to obtain...

You mention mentions in the Newsletter - have you tracked down 'hard' copies of the articles?

If you know the dates of the mentions then it is possible that there are pictures accompanying the articles in the 'hard' copy of the day. If this is the case then you might find pictures from which you can take pictures off of in the Wm. Salt library.

It'll cost you £6 to take one, two or 76 photos, so it's worth putting a bit of effort in to the endeavour beforehand to make the most of it.

Ask the fellow on the door if he knows anything about it first - he's a diamond mine that might well take you straight to the money shot - if he doesn't know straight off the bat he'll probably have a better idea where to look than you. If it is not a chap at the door, then i dare say you will find an equal measure of welcome.

Either way it is definitely worth an enquiry there.

P.S. If you follow the ^above advice, the Salt library isn't a place where one just turns up and has a leaf through the contents - you need to become a member. Take a form of ID and proof of address.

^Wot he said.

It has somewhat erratic opening hours but rightly so - you need at least an hour for lunch.

Eastgate Street is almost an anagram of Estate Agent Street and contains almost all of Stafford's finest estate agents, surely they should be able to help in the disposal of this fine building?
