I've managed to get a great deal from Stafford to London first class train for 2 for £68 quid return , now getting a hotel is proving a problem , we got tickets to Wimbledon men's final ( excited or what ) but they are nearly all sold out already in that area , I don't mind near Euston but prices are crazy , can anyone recommend anywhere they know :)

Stayed at club quarters next to st. Paul. Obviously a bit of a hike but essentially a business hotel so it's usually cheaper and has more availability at weekends.
Use booking.com as their own website is a bit crap

I used to live in Pimlico and was looking at hotels in London and a few of the decent nes around there were coming up at decent prices.

We have also got tickets (not for the final) but were going to go there and back in a day on the train.

Just had a thought though, we won't know what return train to book as the matches can get postponed due to rain. Is that why you are staying overnight in case the match runs over?

Also is there a dress code for Wimbleon....is it a dressy uppy day out?

Sorry to hijack your thread.

It is always worth actually telephoning individual hotels yourself

Only as an example ....

Various 'booking' websites had the Savoy at £600 a night over the weekend when a direct call to the hotel would have saved you £200 and got you dinner included

That's why we like Trivago because it compares all the various sites including the hotel direct.

So for example it will compare a certain hotel when booking through late rooms, e bookers, last minute etc and also the hotel direct. It also shows price options including breakfast etc.

You can also tap in a postcode so that you can see hotels nearest to where you actually want to be.

The last hotel room that we booked through Trivago showed the cheapest price for The Cavendish as through Asda travel, which to be honest we didn't even know existed.

Travelodge, Euston.

Stayed a couple of times and it's super handy, only if you get a good deal though of course.

I've used the crestfield hotel a few times, its a short walk from euston and very close to king cross tube, the travelodge in holborn/covent garden area is a great area to stop.

Just a reminder that most online booking sites charge hotels between 15- 20% commission, so most operators will prefer a direct booking - always worth quoting the online price (booking.com etc) then have a see what discount you get!

I didn't know that Chris, thanks for the tip.

Just had a fab steak meal at the bar earlier tonight in The Moat House, really lovely.

Carol , no it's not really dressy up , but you do see some sights , take comfy clothes and shoes and a light weight jacket as it can get cool and get your food outside as its very expensive :)

Whatever you do, do not stay here - EVER...... http://www.blairvictoria.com/
We had the misfortune to stay for one night and it was the dirtiest, vilest hotel I've ever seen. The whole place was a health and safety nightmare. Almost everything in the room was broken and filthy. the sheets hadn't been changed and we slept in our clothes and got out of there as quickly as we could in the morning not wishing to risk breakfast. There seemed no point in complaining since the person on reception claimed not to speak English.
