Just try not to get bogged down with the Phone Masts debate.

Thanks, there are a number of other issues;

- Proposed housing & road developments
- Stafford Hospital proposals
- Speeding traffic & road safety
- Facilities for local residents
- Litter & general maintenance of the area
- Anti-social behaviour & crime

Or, any other issues anyone would like to raise

Take a look at this interactive map, which highlights current planning applications, developments in the area: http://www.zeemaps.com/pub?group=936758'

It would be nice if residents / community groups did other things than meetings I could write the minutes for in advance....

Such as? Do you know what the community group has done? I've had their newsletter through my door tonight and this meeting seems to be a chance for residents to question local councillors, police etc about things happening in the area. I know from previous newsletters that the group co-ordinate a meeting for older residents to get together and run a Speedwatch initiative.

Damn. It should have read a group for older people to get together, and the community group and run a Speedwatch initiative. I don't know if the people who do that are old or young!

I've no problem with dealing with issues like speeding traffic, though in most communities half of the problem are drivers who live in the very same area. There needs to be positive activity too, I think. Off the top of my head things like - maybe lift sharing, gardening public areas (with permission if necessary), growing fruit and veg in front gardens, more looking after of neighbours, exchanging skills. There is a tendency for residents groups to turn into ranting shops rather than being balanced out with positive activity.

Henry, honestly .....go to your room and don't come out until you can behave.

These community groups rely on a small number of people that care enough to try and make a difference.

To others it might seem boring or petty or small minded.....but actually most communities that survive rely on those that can motivate others to work together as a team.

All of this I agree with....communities working together.

The BCG run a speed watch scheme in the area.
As our Councils have cut back on their services, locals and local community groups have to lobby them more and more to clean up public spaces. (I've offered to clean it up myself)
Their is an indicative being rolled out through Staffordshire to help neighbours, there's currently one being started in the wider area of Berkswich, see the post on her 'Berkswich Good Neighbours Scheme'

This meeting is an opportunity for residents to ask questions:

"Question time - No long speeches, just the opportunity to question your local MP, Staffordshire Police, County & Borough Councillors"

I thought it was a good meeting Steve_b, well done! There seemed to be about 60 or so there? There were a lot of topics covered, including phone masts, but it was interesting. I wonder what the 'upgrade' to Baswich Lane will consist of?
