Well if they weren't women flashing their chests at us Moley, they were fellas with pretty impressive pectoral muscles. ;)

Either you're being saracastic, or you just haven't met Tim from Blue Watch! :)

Stafford 1....proceed to Road Traffic Collision, Persons Reported......Stafford 1.....proceed to Road Traffic Collision, Persons Reported.....neee...naa...neee...naaa!

Then the lady trapped in the car hears Tim's coming, and suddenly she manages, as if by magic, to free herself :D!

On a more serious note, regarding the "Water Rescue" incident....did 2 appliances from Stafford, and 1 from Stone, as well as the boat from Cannock all attend reports of one man in a shallow river? I thought the PDA's were edited to stop so many resources being used up at once? Over 15 FF's to get one bloke out :D?

StaffordMad, I don't know if you are a fan of the golden toothed wonder, (if so you can join his official fan club "The Grube Hunters") or you think he is a Munter.

PDA's do what they say, ie a Pre-Determined Attendance; the above was an example of the attendance required for a water rescue. If a rescuer has to go in the water, there has to be an identically dressed rescuer on the bank. You need at least three teams of rescuers, thats 6 bods, an officer in charge for each pump = 3 bods, drivers for each pump = 3 bods, a boat crew 2 bods! It soon mounts up.

Now I know you will say, "but the Sow is nowt but a piddle", and you'd be right, but when in full flood, its very dangerous. We have a number of dangerous fast rivers in the County, and rescuers at water incidents are at significant risk.

Health and Safety considerations therefore mean that the PDA takes all this into account, and all the resources that may be necessary are sent. The PDA for water rescue incidents doesn't discriminate.

Now you can end up looking stupid, 15 bods to rescue one fella from a river, and he hadn't even fallen in!!! But when you look at the alternative, (see below*), I think you'll see why Fire Brigades have opted for the belt and braces approach.

*The approach of fire brigade's changed for ever, after a fatality in Manchester round about seven years ago. Fire crews were called to reports of a lad in difficulties in a lake. They were guided to a spot in the lake where the lad had been last seen 15 mins previously, by a Police Helicopter. The Sub Officer decided to enter the water and swim to the spot where the boy had last been seen. He wore his fire service working rig uniform, and tied a general purpose rope round his middle. He reached the point indicated but was already experiencing difficulties, he indicated he needed to be hauled in. His crew hauled him in, but unfortunatley they were unaware that the rope had sunk under a submerged tree. The act of recovering him, pulled him under the water and drowned him. His body was later recovered along with the body of the boy, by police divers!

Manchester Fire had been consistently made aware of their lack of equipment and proper proceedures prior to this tradgedy, and the Health and Safety Executive slammed them. We now all have floating lines, life jackets, bouancy aids, dry suits, helmets, and new training packages and proceedures. It took the life of a firemnan for this to come about. So thats why 15 bods turn up at a shallow stream to rescue a fella, who hasn't even fallen in!
