The Underground on Stone Road - Has anyone been?

Hi Everybody,

My Mrs and I are looking for possible venues for a relative's 40th birthday (next year), and were thinking about the Underground. There would be around 60 to 80 guests.

I was wondering whether anyone had been in there, and if it is a nice venue?
Do they have a bar facility, and can they also offer catering? Could we arrange the catering ourselves (I'm not sure what the plan is about food yet...)?

Thank you!

Yes, I think that's the one.
I haven't lived in Stafford long enough to have known it then, but I've it's changed a lot over the time.

I think the problem for me given the event is some time off is being sure that a 'club' type venue would still be under the same ownership

If you want something very central you could try the Oddfellows Hall in the main street, or perhaps Stafford Rangers Social Club

Also, at Riverway the Hockey Club host parties I believe, as do the Polish Club across that road

Thanks John Marwood,
That's a good point.

We wanted to try a new venue, but the venues you've suggested seem "safe" choices.

Also, not to be pedantic but it's actually Foregate Street. The Stone Road starts at the McDonalds island

No worries wmr!

I'm absolutely rubbish with street names. I drive or walk down that street regularly, but never thought of checking its name.

Maybe the army have a drill hall, Arnold Clarke's is vast, but the best venue in Stafford ( acoustically ) is the ex King Edward VI School hall opposite Top of the World

I thought this was going to be about the underpass ;) *Good times @ Reynolds bar...

I can't say I've seen the 'Underground' open for ages.....does it belong to Ashiana?

We have been to an event there in the past and very good it was too. I think the current owners are Ashiana so they might be worth contacting. There was a bar but unsure if it licensed since Ashiana took it on.

Thank you very much for your suggestions!
Bingley Hall seems is very nice idea, John Marwood! :bananarock:

We'll check with Ashiana, and compare with other venues.

Quick question, just out interest: I've heard recently that what is now the Underground used to be a "Gentleman's Club" at some point... Is that true? It just looks like a strange location for such a business.

Stafford has no gentlemen, only Dandies

Yes it was a lapdancing club, 2 incarnations back. It was weird that Stafford had one, but yes it was there. Also Ashiana is relatively recent, it used to be in Vivere and was named rose of kashmir, the space it occupied, if I recall correctly was a bar originally.

Yep, it was a lap dancing bar. One of its performers would let you snort coke off her breasticles, for a price. Allegedly. It may have been pepsi as my mind is a bit blurred from that era. It certainly wasn't virgin cola.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Not to be even more pedantic but it's actually a roundabout not an island.
