The Underground on Stone Road - Has anyone been?

Quick question, just out interest: I've heard recently that what is now the Underground used to be a "Gentleman's Club" at some point... Is that true? It just looks like a strange location for such a business.

Yes. From underpants to Underground.

In my day, it was The Cellar Bar.

And seriously...no.

So when does a roundabout become an island (or vice-versa)? Does it depend on the size?

A roundabout is a type of traffic junction whereas an island is a raised area in the road usually either to provide pedestrians refuge when crossing a busy road or to seperate traffic flows. If it's a junction where vehicles circulate clockwise with multiple entries/exits then it's a roundabout, size doesn't matter.
Must be a regional thing though as it's only since moving down here that I've heard 'island' used to mean a roundabout ???

What if it's a 'junction', but without multiple entries/exits? Is that a roundabout or an island? Like this. It's been like that for a few years, the 'proto-exits' are just used as lay-bys for the time being.

I'd only ever heard them called roundabouts until I moved west, I assume it is a midlands thing. I guess if I was pushed I would say that a roundabout is the whole thing, the island is the bit in the middle that you are not supposed to drive on (or any other raised bit in the middle of the road).
