Gypsies arrived at a village near me and everyone went crazy over it - some toshy do-gooders wailing that anyone who didn't welcome them with open arms was racist.
As far as I'm aware - being a gypsy/ traveler - whatever isn't a 'race' its a way of living - by choice.

Yup, pikey is a life choice. No different to being a vegan, apart from they're toilet trained.

As far as I am aware the bastards cost the taxpayer whilst contributing nothing. Should I give a crap if they get a hard time? Of course I shouldn't, reap what you sow and all that crap. I'd be a right hypocrite if I bitched about dole bludgers but ignored pikies, at least the doleys aren't trying to stay off the radar (until they need the NHS etc.)

Although if you agree they should pay no council tax any chance you can sub mine too? I don't fancy paying it, I don't drive and shit so god knows why I should sub you lot. Hell, I'm rarely even home, it should Def be legal for me to ignore the laws of our land.

But surely its a choice? Being born into a certain skin isn't something you have a choice in -

But where you live is?

But not exempt from the "act like a ****, get treated like a ****" act, time immemorial. I don't get the problem, if they didn't piss everyone off there wouldn't be an issue but leaving human shit on kids playing fields kind of annoys people for some odd reason.

Precedents are set, they need to prove them wrong or they will always be seen as scum.

Try living across the road from one as i have had to do for the last 4 yrs see how some of you like it. Fecking dogs running loose all times of the day and night. Council seem to have washed their hands of the whole business.
Couple of caravans and upto ten cars at a time parked in the field p1sses me right off, you want to try it for a while

- whether you agree or disagree with the classification, travellers are recognised as a distinct ethnic group by British law. Of course it is as illegal to discriminate in favour of one particular ethnic group as it is to do so against, but comments like “pikey scumbags” are not very helpful

- changes to the requirements of local authorities to provide pitches for travellers in 1994 led to many settling down, the name essentially is a legal definition in this instance, after all does one actually have to live in Asia to be of Asian ethnic origin?

Very sorry, in that case I welcome our tax unburdened brothers with open arms. Feel free to use land we pay the upkeep for however you may wish, for as long as you wish. Don't worry yourselves about the mess, we have sanitation teams standing by to make the area safe for humans again once you've found an unspoiled plot to move on to.

Do Gypsies and Irish Travellers pay taxes and rent?

  • All Gypsies and Travellers living on a local authority or privately owned sites pay council tax, rent, gas, electricity, and all other charges measured in the same way as other houses.
  • Those living on unauthorised encampments, generally speaking, do not pay council tax, but they also do not generally receive services. There are occasions when basic services, such as a toilet or a wheelie bin, are provided and the Gypsies and Travellers might make payment for this service direct to the appropriate local authority.
  • All residents within the UK pay tax on their purchases, petrol and road tax as do Gypsies and Travellers.

Just for the sake of balance. Not going into the notion of cleaning up sites - but the idea that they dodge tax's and still get services is not quite as straight forward as many assume.

Unauthorised camps don't pay council tax because they don't use services? Apart from bins neither do I really, but I still have to pay. I have no issue with legitimate places, just the arseholes that think any piece of green land is theirs to shit on.

I don't believe I said that. I quoted a government site, nothing more.

As to the figures on income tax, I shall not pretend to have access to those figures. However the emphasis on evidence is usually to be placed on the accusing party - do you know how many of them illegally avoid income tax ?

Did find an article on it in a newspaper though

As for other taxes, all gypsies and travellers wherever they live are subject to the same income tax and VAT laws as anyone else in the UK. P60’s and income tax return forms do not have a little box that you can tick that exempts you from tax if you are a traveller.

You cannot send a P60 or a tax return to somebody with no address. It's also very difficult to tax them when they are all called Smith (with the specific reason of avoiding being identified).

I tend to believe that someone, anyone, who does not even have the decency to clean up after themselves and leave shit and worse behind them almost certainly won't have the decency to pay tax and contribute to society in a meaningful way.

Someone saying it is up to the accuser to prove, in this instance is either deluded or guilty of promoting liberalist smoke and mirrors to try to wrong foot those who do contribute to society and object to those who don't.

Or someone is making accusations against people without any actual evidence of wrongdoing ;)

Either way, whilst I'm not happy having a criminal element nearby ... until they prove themselves such I shall continue taking every individual as I find them. :)
