Quite wrong for them tro say it's a "low carbon electricity system" though, as it consumes MORE POWER than it creates - and the power it needs to take from the grid isn't necessarily low carbon generated. It's a bit like the Electric Car which isn't necessarily clean and green at all.
For anyone who wonders how this power station makes money, put simply it produces electricity when demand is high and they sell it to the grid at a good price. When demand is low and electricity is much cheaper it's then bought back to pump the water back to the top lake - hence leaving a profit despite consuming more electricity than it creates.

Very ingenious though :)

Known in the past as the Economy 7 powerplant, used low cost night time electricity, at one time mainly routed from French atomic power stations, to pump the water up*. Run mainly to supply sudden peaks as it could be run up very quickly to cope with all the kettles going on during the ad break in Coronation Street or half time in the Cup Final, or from when everyone got home from work. Nowaday lord only knows where our supplies come from and it is generating for much longer periods. Very inefficient.

* Electricity from France was always cheap and a lot of our supply was imported, many British stations were run down at night and a major part of the electricity used in this country at night was generated in France. The cross channel cables were put in so that we could take their electricity when demand here was high and low in France and could supply electricity when our demand was low and theirs was at a peak. In fact French power was always cheaper so the supply was nearly always one way.

For those worried about accidents at British nuclear power stations, the one that would cause most problems for the UK if anything went wrong is in Normandy.

Where would I go if World War 3 started? The pub.

Apparently the hole in the floor of the Nags Head is a time portal to the North Pole, which could be handy.

But it only works one way and you need to be able to speak Inuit to be in it

So Clare Island it is? ok

Here's the plan

We will get the extra Guinness supplies from Westport, drive to Louisburgh and catch the ferry with Bridget

Then, my mate Brian who works on board a nuclear submarine will sail unseen into Kilary Harbour, ( see diagram ) and then text me when he is parked up

We transfer the stout under cover of the dark stuff and sail away to some peachy little island or atol

Don't worry, he is on T Mobile too so there should be no problems getting in touch
