You sound like someone who only ever drives everywhere and thinks that the only people in society that matter are car drivers. :(
i drive cycle and walk dependent on where i am going and how soon i need to be there

city's such as Birmingham have 40 limits on many main routes already, and there is no evidence that the KSI rate is any higher than in 30 areas most people befour and accident brake reducing impact speed

wing mirrors are designed to detach when they hit a pedestrian...
Jolly good.

Does this mean that as you reel to your imminent hospitalisation you can at least content yourself with the fact that the fecker will have to buy a new wing mirror?

if it was the pedestrians fault, I'd send THEM the bill for a new wing mirror, why should I pay £500 if they were careless or stupid?

Cities such as Birmingham do not have narrow main roads where the pedestrians are forced to walk on narrow pavements very close to huge juggernauts and the like, as happens for long stretches of the Wolverhampton Road, Stone Road, Weston Road, and Lichfield Road i.e, the main roads of Stafford. If we had wide dual carriageway roads, where pedestrians are well removed from traffic then I could agree with you, but we don't.

What's the rush anyway? How many seconds earlier will you arrive on a 2 mile journey if you are able to travel at 40 rather than 30??

You were making a valid argument, up until you posted this. A very silly thing to post.

Obey the speed limits, and drive according to the road conditions, keep full attention on the road and what you are doing, and it's very hard to inadvertantly career on to the pavement and mow down a pedestrian no??

Speeding infers intent, as it's a deliberate act which disregards the consequences to others..............intent being the key here

Enjoying a drop of red.

I thought we were talking about simply crossing the Eccleshall Road and cars breaking the speed limit. How many cars have mounted the pavement in your immediate vicinity when you try to cross that road? If more than one I'd consider finding another way to wherever it is you are going.

Murder would be deliberately mounting the pavement with the intention to kill or seriously harm.

Back to the original point. I think fifty is about right for Beaconside, but as Shoes says, eventually the sheer weight of traffic will make that an unlikely possibility. As for the Eccleshall Road then I see no reason to raise the current speed limit and every reason to put measures in place to punish people that do, as it is busy, has many hazards and many junctions.

No idea, but one preventable death is to one too many...
Perhaps we should all abandon our cars, don bubble suits and roll around everywhere in sweet blissful safety.
