Live music at the MET Studio

It seems a proper effort is being made just lately to bring quality gigs to the MET Studio at the Gatehouse Theatre. I attended the one on the 1st of September, when American band The Stray Birds came to town. They did a superb show and it was one of only two English gigs on their tour (the other being in London) so we were very lucky to have them come to Stafford.

The next of these gigs is now just a week away, with Jefferson Hamer playing the MET Studio on Friday the 19th. He’s a New York based musician and was a winner at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Nice to see acclaimed artists being brought to the town! Here’s a clip of him performing at the awards:

Anyway, just wanted to point this out in case these gigs are slipping under the radar of any music loving forumites!

Note that it seems there are still problems with the Gatehouse website (these have been ongoing for a few weeks while the site is being revamped) but tickets can be bought in person from the box office. For most of these gigs, tickets are £12.50 each.

There is, as you appear to have discovered, a way of making sure these gigs slip no longer under the forum radar....

Hi again, forumites. Florence and I enjoyed Friday night tremendously.

Next of these gigs is Monday the 6th of October with Luke Jackson, a hugely talented young man from Canterbury. Check him out here:

It is now possible to buy tickets online via the Gatehouse website, although I still think the site is crap compared with how it was before the “improvements”!

Looks like an absolutely brilliant event, Oxjam!

And only a few days to go now until Luke Jackson. Looking forward to it.

Outstanding show by Luke Jackson last night and numbers appear to be on the rise for these gigs too, which is great to see. Were any other forumites present?

Now only three nights to go until the Oxjam event!

Hi there. Thought I’d mention a couple more of these which are both happening next week. (I think these are probably the last two of the year, and then I’m not sure if there’s anything else of interest music-wise at The MET until January.)

First of all, on Monday there’s Jess Morgan who has a growing reputation on the folk scene and is known for her distinctive clawhammer-like guitar playing.

Then on Wednesday there’s Dan Walsh & Meaghan Blanchard, a transatlantic collaboration. I did a bit of Googling and found this radio thing from last year when Dan went to Meaghan's native Canada and toured with her there:

So now I guess this is the second leg, Meaghan touring England with Dan, including a hometown gig for Dan at The MET Studio.

I reckon these should both be really excellent gigs. Some good stuff being lined up for next year too, beginning in January with Blair Dunlop.
