Well... we went Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were met with a welcoming smile off every member of staff, even those who weren't serving our area. Service was prompt and attentive, the young lady was very friendly and worked her socks off. Mr Miah, a lovely chap came over a number of times to ask us how the food was. We had a starter and a main, the portions were just right in my opinion and food was delicious! Will definitely be going back there again soon - and if they do manage to set up a delivery service (I see they were advertising for a driver on Facebook) then I may well be ordering from there a bit too soon!

2 small negatives on a great night - it can get a bit snug. 4 of us round a four seat, square table we were struggling for room. When there's 4 plates, a couple of rices a nan and your drinks glasses on the table, it becomes a bit of a juggling act, we laughed with the people sat next to us as they were struggling the same. Secondly, and this was from the wife, there is only one individual woman's toilet and on the night being busy there was a queue at times, a couple of woman deciding to go for the disabled one instead. When she finally managed her turn, the cubicle was freezing cold!

As I say only small points but still - I will definitely be back!

Booked a table for 7:30 last night via a pm on here. Arranged to meet Mrs T in The Sun at 7:15 but she was delayed, I nipped over at about 7:35 to say we'd be late but there was no problem there. Gave me the opportunity for another pint of the lovely plum porter!
Got in about 8:05 had a warm welcome and were shown straight to a table, then shortly afterwards another table by a radiator came free so we were offered that one, nice.
Were given plenty of time to peruse the menu and, once ordered, the food was with us pretty quickly.
I played safe for a first visit to a new venue and had the half tandoori chicken which was very tasty, succulent and tender. The accompanying veg curry was quite mild but I'm sure that if asked they could change that. Mrs T had the chicken tikka chasny, something she'd never tried before and thought it was really tasty. They then brought out a complimentary ice cream desert and two spoons which we thought was a nice touch. Service was really friendly and efficient, nice guys. (and girl)
We've booked for a return visit next Wenesday which, I think, says it all.

@Trumpet, I am really glad you and Mrs T enjoyed your visit at The Island, the sauce that come with tandoori dishes is mild but i can make it extra slightly hotter for you, that's not a problem, just let us know when you order. I have seen you have booked again next wednesday. See you next week, Thanks again for your lovely feedback.

Went and collected takeaway from the Island last night. The interior is really nice, the music stays in the background so we could hear each other speak!
The staff are very friendly and the food unbelievably good. I had a vegetable biryani and vegetable curry- the best I have ever tasted, unlike many takeaways the food was not swimming in oil, a pleasant experience. My five year old grandaughter really enjoyed her rice, it received a thumbs up from her- praise indeed.
My husband, who normally will not try takeaways enjoyed his jalfrezi and has said that we will go and have a meal there.
The staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful, all in all a really good experience!
Next time you are planning a night out give them a call- you will not be disappointed, and, I almost forgot to mention, the prices are very good too!

Sorry the review has taken so long. Our party of 8 arrived at 5.45 and were quickly shown to our table, as I was the only who had eaten there before, I recomened the Modhu Minty Lamb, Julie who choose it really enjoyed it. We all seemed to choose something different, but it all came together which was good.
Most people thought the chilli sauce with the popadoms was very hot, me I'd much rather have a Chilli Pickle.
After the meal we hung around and they were in no rush to move us on, though that might have been because it was only about 8.
Overall everyone had a good time, and everyone who lived in Stafford said they would be back with their partners.

We went last weekend (and were part of a works do) there was about 50 of us. Yes there was a little wait - that was to be expected. The place was packed !!

I have to say it was the loveliest curry I had in years. I'm not into spices ... Asked for a Korma ... And it was lovely that I want to go back

My husband had something hotter - and he agreed his was lovely and he scoffed the lot

I'm sorry some reviews on here are not so good, but I text as I find - it was my first time there and will be back.

50?? :lorks:

i doff my hat to any restaurant that can cope with a booking of 50 people and come out smelling of roses.. i have to say, in the short time @The Island - Stafford have been open and the few times i've used them, i have been really impressed, and that is a pretty amazing feather to add to their cap!

Going at 5 pm today with a gang from CAMRA as back to work tomorrow for most people, not booked as it is very early and have no idea how many are going to turn up.

Well there was only 2 of us in the end but yet again an enjoyable meal. I had the chicken breast with mincemeat, the waiter suggested it.

I went to the Island on Saturday and found it to be a fairly mediocre experience.

The mixed starter platter was pleasant but a little on the greasy side however, the main courses were the real disappointment.

Three of our party had varied cream/yoghurt based curries - passanda, makarni and one other. Usually these vary in colour/consistency but all three looked and tasted pretty similar (red) and the meat was fairly minimal. Another of our friends had a lamb shank bhuna which is usually a tomato based sauce. However, this didn't bear any similarity to any bhuna which we'd had before. Also it appeared that the shank had been cooked separately and then covered with the brown sauce. Added to that the rice was overcooked - it was the consistency of rice that you'd find in a can of rice pudding!

I went there with an open mind not having seen this thread previously but left feeling "underwhelmed". Not a bad experience just not particularly impressed and wouldn't rush back.

Panache or Narvana it ain't!

Hi @Dancing Queen

I am very surprised in reading this review, as myself took your order and recommended the Shank as one of your friends suggested he wanted a lamb on the bone but not too spicy, I did go over to him specifically while he was eating and asked him if the lamb shank is okay, and said it was nice.
The other curries Pasanda and Makhani should not have tasted the same, when i asked about the meal, if you had mentioned it to myself there and then, i would have changed them straight away and had a word with my chef. All our curries and rice are prepared fresh for all individual orders. We appreciate your feedback and I am really sorry you found this time a mediocre experience but please let me make this an excellent experience for you,I look forward to you returning with friends in the future as I hope your next experience here will inspire and restore your faith in The Island. I am very keen to prove our dedication to you and all our customers, to ensure you receive the best food and service. Please visit us again and ask for myself Shaz or Mr Miah next time you come in.

Kind Regards
