Evening.

Again despite weather warnings it seems that the gritting teams are slow to react sadly. Thought it may be interesting after the 3rd night of severe frost to see where they have been.

I have spotted one this evening on the Tixall Road at around 8.20pm.

I applaud the drivers but the people giving out the instructions can be a little reluctant to say the least....

My brother got in trouble years ago for gritting the junction of our road as he gritted other roads on our estate, as it wasn't on his planned route. Someone in our road reported him  .

Having done this role in the past (not for Staffs), I can only sigh and suggest that you haven't a clue about all the different permutations and options available for when to give the call to go.

don't the council put less grit on the road than they used to to reduce costs/ prevent damage to road surface.? this could lead to increased likelihood of ice formation on treated roads under certain weather conditions? on the whole i think the council do a good job of keeping the roads clear

Saw 4 or 5 gritters pass me today on Beaconside. I can't say I've ever had a problem with the way the roads are gritted, all the main routes I use seem to be fine for the years I've lived in Stafford.

Signs on the motorway driving northwards between Dudley and West Brom tonight said teams out 'Salting' the motorway. They stopped after that, so don't know if they have been out around this area.

The only time I have had a problem recently with ungritted roads was winter 09/10 when the grit almost ran out. Some roads, that had previously been done, were missed as grit was prioritised for the busiest routes. I ended up broadside across the road by Aston bank after tiptoeing around a bend at 5 mph. No damage done fortunately but it shows how effective road gritting is and that it's impossible to drive safely on ice at any speed.
