Black and White Bridge by mikehillman1983, on Flickr

One from the film archives, taken at some point in 2009

Camera and Lens - Seagull Medium Format TLR, fixed lens at 75mm
Settings - Shutter and Aperture unknown, Ilford FP4 120 roll Black and White Film (ISO 125), Tripod Mounted, Fully Manual
Location - Dolgoch Falls, North Wales

The film would have been developed using Promicrol developer and Amfix fixer, although I'm now looking to switch back to Ilford Ilfosol 3 and Rapid Fixer

Are vertical shutters normal now? In the old days, horizontal shutters seemed to be the norm - Prakticas were almost the only cameras with vertical shutters.

They are pretty much standard now yes, have been for a while - although my Seagull (the camera in my avatar picture) has a leaf shutter

I hadn't noticed that happen - it used to be fairly obvious if a moving object had been pictured with a Praktica - it was OK if they leaned forwards, but it just looked so wrong if they leaned backwards.

Do they always operate downwards, or is it up/down on alternate shots?

I have my old Lubitel somewhere...

They always operate downwards, the shutter resets after the exposure.

I'm not sure when vertical focal plane shutters became the norm, although I know my Dads 1975 Cosina has one - actually got some film in that at the moment, need to take it out on a trip somewhere!

Talking of film, Tesco in Rugeley had some Fujifilm 200 reduced for quick sale the other day. Someone found a box in the back of a warehouse somewhere?

Most likely in the case of Tesco - they do still make it though, along with Kodak (who still make the professional Portra and Ektar films) and Agfa, as well as Ilford for black and white film

I'm using some FujiFilm Superia 400 at the moment
