Total eclipse Friday 20th March

I'm looking forward to the next eclipse. March 20th at around 10:30am totality (starting from around 9:30am).

I'm thinking Stafford Castle if the weather is nice, not that it matters where you see it from too much. Fingers crossed for clear skies. :)

I believe that we might just be outside the zone of totality.

Yes, we are a bit too far south to get totality :( the Moon will approach the Sun from the right hand/west side. Something should be visible from about 08:30 and then maximum eclipse one hour latter. This is a simulation from Stellarium for around 09:30, interestingly there is a Comet close by the Sun (C 2011 W3 Lovejoy) but it will be too faint to observe.

I can highly recommend travelling to see a total solar eclipse if you ever get the chance. I was lucky enough to be in southern Turkey, in perfect weather conditions, for the 2006 eclipse.

Totality is completely different from a partial eclipse, even a 99% one.

Whilst this month's eclipse is not that far away, the likely weather conditions mean that it could prove to be an expensive trip with little reward. The next relatively easily accessible total solar eclipse will be on the evening of 12 August 2026, viewable from much of northern Spain. Otherwise, there are a good number of eclipses before that, but you'll have to travel a fair way for them, the best of which is probably the one on 24 August 2017, viewable across parts of the USA.

For anyone wanting to see this please ignore the times I originally quoted. As @Laurie61 stated it actually begins at around 8:31am and the closest point to totality we'll see (around 90% I think) would be at 9:31am.
There is a simulation for Stafford HERE

Tonight's full moon is a ' mini moon'

The moon will appear smaller than usual if visible

Its because the owners have cut back on its size rather than put the price up

Or summat

Don't worry, Jeremy Lefroy is fighting to ensure that Stafford gets its full sized moon back as soon as possible. In fact, if he hadn't lobbied the government so hard, then the moon would have been even smaller than it is.

Does anyone know of anywhere selling eclipse glasses? I know I've left it late but I stupidly assumed Asda would just have a stack by the door for 99p or something.

You're better off projecting it - blank off one side of the binoculars and uses a sheet of card to provide a shadow to allow you to see the projected image.

..you will be able to see any sunspots and whatever that way, also - and you can project it to quite a decent size, too..

Alas, I will be at work. I might get five minutes to watch the peak but I won't get the leeway to construct a pinhole camera with binoculars

Smallest child has been asked by school to bring in a colander tomorrow.

She asked me earlier in the week if we were all going to die in 'the apocalypse on Friday'?

You can do a genuine pinhole camera with two pieces of card - just not such a bright image - it's a Friday, for God's sake, what do they expect? Output?

Tell me you said "Yes".

Predictions, currently, that we might get away with being clouded over - but, apparently, the Moon will be in way anyway.

Right
I have sort of missed the eclipse thing.

I am meeting my friend tomorrow who lives in Brocton at 9.30am for a dog walk.

I dont have smoke or mirrors or bits of card with holes in or colunders.

What will happen to me?
