I find it that amusing that a thread discussing our burgers has become a private consultation clinc re acid reflux ;)

In response to the portion size debate, we do also have a lot of positive feedback regarding the generous portion sizes. Many people enjoy the fact that they get a large portion. We don't want to underwhelm customers, and our philosophy is generous serves of great fresh house made favourites. We do encourage customers that if they can't finish their meal then they are welcome to ask us to package the rest to take away for later.

I certainly didn't mean change the main offerings, just offering a smaller not girly in the slightest option if needed (kids, people like me that can't eat loads usually). Same burgers but a 4oz lump of cow rather than 8oz, but I suppose from a financial point of view it would only change the price by a quid or so and maybe most people would then just go for the burger they can't finish regardless? I dunno, I guess I was always taught to eat what was on my plate!

Regardless, I still keep coming in for the fries (which I can finish) so top work on those!

Definitely the way to go.... if people have too much then they don't have to eat it. There is nothing worse than not having enough food on your plate.

This post has certainly tempted me... just got to convince the wife (vegetarian) now and we'll be in to sample your big portions!!!

Thats true enough but for those with a small appetite it seems both a waste of food AND money..and I dont like doing either.

Its a good idea about the doggy bag but if, for example , one was going shopping afterwards then one woudnt want to carry a dish of half eaten food around with them.

I'd much prefer to just have a smaller portion to start with.
I'm one of those people who if I have a starter then I generally cant eat my main course. Buffet type places are wasted on me.

I don't think the portions served by Market Vaults are overly large. You do get a slightly bigger portion than you do at the Bear Inn or Bean Encounter, however, I don't think the portions are unmanageable for those that have a smaller appetite than me.

Market Vaults also offer other meal options for those that don't want a burger. Top nosh at very reasonable prices and superb beer.

I'm starting to think I have a much smaller appetite than the norm, as the chilli cheese fries I ate on Saturday around 2pm stopped me eating until the same time Sunday!

Today, I had the Hipster - it wouldn't have been my own first choice, but loyalty to the Forum insisted that I continue the quest to sample all the offerings.

It was actually much more to my liking than I thought it would be and, I believe, would be well liked by those that really do like this sort of thing. I did find the fries rather salty today, but I do still have half the 750g bottle of salt that I bought in 1978, so others might not have noticed..

..and, the usual predictable outcome..

I believe you are thinking of the malthouse vaults, been gone a while that has. The market vaults was joxer bradys, and the chains before that, and is just off the market square.

Right, well, this is an 'Old Norm', or Chainsburger, as I shall be calling it. (£8.95)

and this is what was left at the end.

Not for the faint-hearted looking for a quick snack - it requires pacing and a systematic approach.

The (potentially controversial) "pickled vegetables" were largely carrots and onion.

The downstairs staff was run off his feet at times and mine took about ten minutes to arrive - neither of which are of the slightest concern to me, and are probably a good sign, really.

Does that price also include the pint of Guinness?

For the sake of completeness, I had the Morrissey today. Quite substantial for a veggie thing and fairly tasty, too.

It did arrive rather quicker than the carnivorous ones have in the past, and ended up in the same condition.
