On the topic of this, does anyone know (@Withnail perhaps) if it's possible to organise a ghost walk around Stafford for Halloween? Could such a thing be organised?
The folk @ the High House do a town tour that can be ghost themed. They usually do one at Halloween but i've just had a look and it seems they aren't doing it this year - they have another 'Ghost Hunt' night (run by the unfortunately named PPI ) going on.

They don't seem to have anything about them on the website but if memory serves it is £3.50 ish p.p. for a minimum of 15 people (ie you could come with 10 but you'd have to pay for 15 sort of thing). Whether they would take a booking for one on Halloween, when there is already an event going on, seems doubtful but you could always ask.

Person working in pub in 1980s claimed bottles flew off shelves & Room 1 has unpleasant atmosphere. Early 21st c reports of a small girl in Ladies toilets. Local psychic Mystic Ed was called to the inn in 2005 after several strange events, including the smashing of glasses and the fire place igniting itself. Ed claimed that several spirits were at work; a nineteenth century drunk named Charlie, a middle-aged woman, a soldier, and the ghost of a young boy called Scotty. Other psychics have identified other spirits. Robert Harvey, a former customer, reputed to haunt the pub. Activity recorded in various parts of pub. There have been a lot of reported happenings here and quite a lot of historical research carried out. Unfortunately there has been a lot of confusion caused by psychics' fairy stories

John Parson Cook, the last of Palmers victims, died in room 10. One book published in the 1930s mentions people paying to view the room, in the 19th century but does not mention haunting. A modern book quotes someone who worked there in the 1930s as mentioning stories then of hauntings, and describing sounds on knocking on the door, people walking and talking. Modern accounts claim William Palmer rather than his victim haunts the place.

Strictly one occurence is near the pub rather than in it. From the pub sirens are heard and flashing blue lights are seen as though attending an accident, but there proves to be nothing there. A figure of a man seen outside the pub at dusk and a man apparently in Quaker garb reported as being seen in the pub.

I did hear of occurrences in what is now the Butlers Bell.

Friends I knew who worked there when it was Apres, reported voices and banging coming from the cellar (located toward the back of the building and the car park)

Several people have said the same thing during their time there, and seeing as the building was built on a viking burial site (correct me if I'm wrong on that) I wouldn't be surprised of any activity.

I do not find surprising that many ghosts lodge in free houses

Indeed yes, where on earth did the donkey come from? :soz:

Bound to be a website for that

The closest I came to a ghost was in 1997 in Brocton

I had a loaded Steyr with a member of the Bullingdon in my site

He was startled by something shiny and the shot was gone

to avoid stalemate, any progress with the aims of this thread?

I'm pretty sure the only Vikings in Stafford make sheds

Evidence has emerged of Viking associations with burials around St Mary's Church.

Looks more like a gypsy wedding

If you never ever get seasick does that mean your ancestors were Vikings?
