Stafford Traffic.

I think the "reader comments" made at the end of article sums up the situation!

"Let's be honest, the Stafford road system has been outdated for years, and is gridlocked at the best of times. But this year residents have been made to experience the most miserable of summers; motorists subjected to endless delays; pedestrians and cyclists suffering polluted air from endless traffic going nowhere. Why on earth is it necessary to perform roadworks on all the main roads/infrastructure in Stafford at the same time? Whichever town or county officials are responsible for "planning" this mess should be sacked. Absolutely ridiculous."

I think you will find that Thatcher stitched up any possibility of governance on this when she privatised all those once public utilities

I don't think it's entirely Stafford's basic road layout that's at fault, it's also the ad hoc additions made over the last fifteen/twenty years. Road narrowing and speed humps, extra traffic lights, reduced speed limits all take there toll, speed cameras that the nervous creep past at fifteen mph. Coupled with extra traffic volumes it can't fail to have an impact. :stafford:

Joy of joys. As if 4 way traffic lights at Weeping Cross mini roundabouts wasn't bad enough, now there's a sign saying that Radford Bank will be CLOSED to all INBOUND traffic from Sept 24th. That's not going to make things even worse then is it!

Whichever total fcukwit thinks these things up should be beaten to death.

"Staffordshire County Council’s transport boss Mark Winnington said: “We have held several meetings with utility companies to try to resolve some of the traffic congestion issues this week.

“We have limited powers in controlling the timings of these works, however we are monitoring them continually to ensure traffic signals are controlled appropriately and effectively . We will continue to work with all organisations involved to minimise future disruption although people should plan additional travel time.” Express and Star 10 9 2015

Mr Winnington has a different meaning to the word effectively than I do but at least he is having meetings

The more meetings, the more 'expenses' can be claimed for attending them, therefore one could argue that it is in some people's interests for meeting never to resolve anything so that another meeting is required.

Not only does our time and money get wasted in the traffic (not to mention the additional pollution caused by all those cars going nowhere) but even more of our money is then wasted on meetings that were designed from the outset to achieve nothing.

Basically we are paying these guys to take the piss out of us, whether it be through council tax or through water charges.

It begs the question why someone (workmen, or women!) can't be working on these problems every second of daylight hours.
I've been passed, when there's no bugger there, and I think to myself, the above thought each and every time.

Maybe the workmen are in meetings!

I am a bit surprised, although probably shouldn't be, that Staffordshire's transport job is tacked onto the Economy and environment post. I guess it only takes 10 minutes to order another set of traffic lights. :stafford:

Having people sitting motionless in traffic jams is the greatest waste of human resources.

Meetings? Why didn't they have those before they started doing something that would result in Stafford becoming even more of a shambles.

Winnington should be sacked and given a new position holding a 'Stop Children' lollipop.

What about buses? assuming I will lose the 825 to the Weston Road route, 74 going on 75 route, only bus Wildwood people can get is a Rickerscote bus and get off at Silkmore lane and walk up trafficless Radford bank

Maybe the buses are expected to go over the bridges on Baswich Lane...

I've been stuck on the tight corner down there due to some long vehicle twice this week.

They need to hack down all the greenery on the approach so drivers of large van can see if anything is coming before making the left turn.
