Stafford Traffic.

This stuff goes on quite frequently to be honest. It would be amusing to more people than just the lads who did it if they drew a cock rather than that lame effort.

If that's something between North and South does that road take me East?

The authority, which became aware of the blunder on Tuesday, said: "It's got nothing to do with us, but it is being corrected by the contractor".

I have been trying to avoid Radford Bank so went up the Weston Road yesterday and it was chaos from the Island at Beaconside to the new Island past the Police Headquarters as more road works just past there on the way to the Show Ground. I turned down Blackheath Lane which was OK but it looked bad on the Weston Rd going towards Weston as the road was dug up on one side so traffic was one way and controlled by lights - hence the lengthy delay :grr:

There are also roadworks on the Eccleshall Road. I think that is now every arterial route with road works.

Are the Utility companies trying to keep us all in Stafford?!

Let's hope SBC don't send in the traffic wardens to ticket us for staying still too long ! Nearly got ticketed today at Sainsbury's car park when I was buying my ticket at the machine....

The message they are giving out, loud and clear, is that Stafford is closed for business.

If the works are delayed for whatever reason and run on into December then the shops and restaurants are really going to suffer.

At the risk of repeating myself:

Stafford has a finite road network. No matter what they do in regards to better use of traffic lights, new roads. roundabouts or whatever to speed up traffic flow, most roads in to and out of the town are, and will remain, 2 lanes wide, 1 in each direction. This is not going to change. New houses are being built faster than local residents can campaign against them. This is also not going to change.

Limited road capacity + shitloads of new houses = Congestion.

The only way to change this is to find a different form of transport, cos moaning and groaning on here about your daily problems while directly creating the traffic you are all moaning about isn't helping you all is it?

Sorry, it's harsh, but you gotta admit it's the truth. Stafford traffic is screwed, and the only solution is to reduce the amount of traffic. The cliched "be the change you want to see" :)

The population is not a dramatic increase

The problem is with what happened thanks to the Thatcher Government.

Now privatised utilities - water, gas, telecoms etc were permitted to dig up roads with complete autonomy

The escalation is in part coincidence but because there is no regulation there is no planning or cooperation and so we have this mess

Only ideas I can come up with;

- Beaconside - convert to dual carriageway - likely couldn't happen now with all the homes being built, may have helped with creation of an eastern bypass by continuing Beaconside passed fire station to Tixall Road (to avoid Blackheath Lane / A518) then continue it along and join at Milford / Shugborough.

- Newport Road - add connection to M6 - may reduce traffic going through town center to reach north / south junctions.

- Convert to one way - Eccleshall Road north and Stone Road south.

- New road joining Castletown and Doxey - move traffic away from town center (avoid Station Rd / Tesco).

- New road between A449 at Acton Gate to A34 around Seven Stars pub - move traffic away from town center.

Many of these do have lanes / rat runs already but rely on local knowledge, without looking at map I have no idea how to do the latter (Mill Lane to Acton Hill Rd).
