What a bunch of hypocrites we are in this country, all this wailing and gnashing of teeth over the terrorist attacks in Paris!

What about the attack in Beirut the day before that killed at least 45 people?

Do they not count, are they somehow less important because they live 'over there'?

There are attacks happening on a daily basis yet we hardly hear a word but when it is a 'Western' country attacked the media goes into overdrive.

We have to accept some responsibility for what is happening and either stick our heads in the sand or get in there and help sort it out.

It could be that the idea that Muslims are victims too doesn't suit our media's agenda in tarring all with the same brush.

I wonder if the media in Beirut has gone nuts over the attacks in France. Probably not.

Of course the closer it is to home the more sensational the headlines will be. To think otherwise is just naive.

I have it on good authority, that as far as state TV is concerned there's been very little mention. But why should there be. The folk over there have to put up with shit like this nearly everyday, from all sides of the argument so to them it's not news but a part of near daily life.

Around a third* of the current population of Lebanon are recent refugees from Syria and Northern Iraq - and that's not counting the displaced Palestinians in the south of the country for the last few decades.

*That would be around 20 million here - and Lebanon was knackered before the current influx....

I know, right?

The way it's being played out in the 'meedya' t's almost like we share some sort of 'mutual' history with France that we don't with the Lebanon. Preposterous!

It's like the experiences of a big city like Paris, a city quite a lot like London, home to pretty much all the citizens of the World, are somehow 'different' to the equally massively populated, multi-cultural, Beirut (Is this right? Ed).

In the 12th C the English had already gained an infamous reputation in Paris for -
  1. Eating to excess
  2. Drinking to excess
  3. Whoring toi excess
?

1,2 or three?

That's so sad :(

I fully believe it will happen here, I don't see how anyone can stop it I also believe that the terrorist who posed as a refugee won't be the only one I think everyone needs to be vigilant when going to crowded places.

Extremism comes in more than one form

Extreme wealth and power at the expense of others will always produce radicals

We should feel fed up with the violence and killing going on around us. If a human being is killed by an animal, it’s sad, but if a human being is killed by another human being it’s unthinkable. We have to make a special effort to think of each other as fellow human beings, as our brothers and sisters.
