I'm going to start the rasberry ketone diet - anyone tried it? I've been going to the gym now for five months and have not lost any weight. I'm struggling to bend and get up off the floor cause i'm so overweight i will try anything to get rid of my excess 3 stone. Any one ever had any success of diets.

Weight loss is 90% diet, exercise will tone and shape you but for most it's all about what you put in, don't fall into the trap of eating back the calories you burn or you'll just end up going round in circles. I've never had an issue loosing weight and I'm actually quiet good at it now, my problem is getting to the point where I fall of the healthy wagon in spectacular style and before I know it I'm back at square one. I lost 2 stone quite quickly a couple of years ago but spent 10 months putting most of it back on, then at the beginning of this year lost 3 1/2 stone between new year and March, now that figure is around 1 1/2 stone but I'm determined I will be two stone down bynext new year compared to the last.

I put a HUGE amount of weight on due to complete removal of my thyroid and associated treatments in 2010/11, as well as never getting rid of pregnancy weight gained, at my biggest I was buying jeans in a size 26 I'm now almost 5 stone down from that point and currently hovering between an 18 & 20 but still have a long way to go, unfortunately I love my food as much as I always have even though I cant get away with as much as I used to. For me it's going to be a life long battle probably with lots of ups and downs. I started at a Slimming World group last week and following the plan I've probably been eating more than usual, I'm looking forward to seeing the results this afternoon. Long term aim is to be comfortably back to the size 14 I was 9 years ago, I don't want to be skinny, just healthy and I'm 5ft 11 so I'd be happy at that point.

I wouldn't be so dismissive of exercise. It really depends on the quality of your diet and how much exercise you get. If your diet is OK, but you drive everywhere and don't play any sport etc, then think about doing a bit more walking or maybe taking up something that involves a bit of exercise.

@arthur ....

Your weight depends on 3 things - what goes in (in terms of quality and quantity), what comes out (in terms of exercise), and your metabolism. You can't do much about the latter, so that leaves reviewing your diet and the amount of exercise you get. Go for the quick wins and the simple changes that are easy to implement and stick to. This is a long term thing, remember - it's no use implementing a regime that you abandon 4 months later so that 6 weeks later, you're back to square one.

I've become a lot more aware of my weight over the last few years. After a 'normal' festive period of over-indulgence, I was 14st6lb. Over the next few months I got down to 13st6lb and was happy to maintain that during the summer. Since then it's fluctuated between norms of 13st10lb during the winter months and the summer figure of 13st6lb. I could reduce my weight by better eating, but I feel I'm hitting diminishing returns so a better strategy for me would be to get more exercise as I don't do a lot at the moment.
