Defrosting cars stolen.

In cold weather I quite often walk past a car on my way to work which is running, heaters on, keys in the ignition, sitting on a main road without a soul in sight anywhere near it - someone could quite easily just hop in and drive off with it, and assuming the owner is in their house they probably wouldn't even notice given how long the garden is...

I'm amazed it hasn't been stolen yet! I always sit in mine while I'm waiting

Modern cars seem very difficult to lock with the engine running - mine requires a specific sequence of actions (and having the second key attached to you, just in case!)

I don't think I can lock mine at all if the engine's running - unless I'm inside it and use the child locks
I experimented with mine (with the windows open, just in case) and it will lock with the key in and the engine running, if you 'hand-lock', using the door catch and then shut the door.

Obviously, you do need to use the second key to unlock it.

It strikes me as a bit dangerous, though....

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
I have painted 4 bricks the exact same colour as my driveway and are totally invisible to the criminal eye so I can warm up the motor without fear of twocing

I defrost my car like this and my car it usually parked quite far away from my house. No one has stolen my car yet. I usually park it at bus stop by a bunch of people freezing their balls off. I'd at least expect one of them to jump in and save themselves a bus fare!
