I think I just saw a sign suggesting there is a DIY shop in Sidney Avenue.

Is this new? Is it any good? Is it on the lines of the one that used to be in First Avenue?

Popped in a few mins ago as I happened to be going past.

It's not like Bricknells or as helpful but they have a fair range of domestic and light DIY stuff in.

Just make sure you lock your car...

About time they did something with that place. It was a disused neighbourhood office/credit union when I lived there.

I think Sarsaparilla was responding to Floss' post.

Out of interest, as someone who grew up in the area, when did the Burton Square start being referred to as Burton Manor Square? I see it all the time now, but that's not its name!

I've no idea it was more luck than judgement calling it what I did

Was Benny Lynch's paper shop and Post office when I lived round there
I remember when it was the p.o. and paper shop. Gordon Bray the butcher was next door and the co-op on't end.

Does anyone remember Patsy Humphries' sweet shop on the corner of School Lane? What a character she was!

Mrs Humphries was the only place you could buy anything on a Sunday at one time

I forgot about the chemist's. I'm talking 60's early 70's. There was also the row of shops on Rickerscote Road where Bricknell's was ... Binns's sweet shop and Patricia Hairdresser's.

We had a leaflet through our door advertising that DIY shop in Sidney Avenue a few months ago. Made a metal note of it for if I ever need any bits & bobs as I'm driving past but not been in yet.
(I remember the little DIY shop years ago on Bodmin Avenue came in very handy when I knocked my dads car numberplate off driving over the garage's jack as I drove in to get the tyres replaced. The bloke sold me a few screws and came out and fixed them on for me...my dad was never any the wiser ;) )
