Surely lowering the prices substantially is likely to make it easier to get a return on the investment?

I find it hard to believe that 52,000 vehicles a day use the Toll. If that is a true figure, just how many use the corresponding stretch of the proper M6 per day?

A lot of people ( I surmise ) who don't drive or don't travel south of The Garth, are living with a misunderstanding that the M6 Toll Road is an alternative but costly route to Birmingham

I would be surprised if there were any takers, unless someone can persuade the Chinese ?, now a desire to make it free are in favour with local councillors.

I've just been to Portsmouth and used the regular M6 both ways, whereas when my parents come up here they always use the toll. Why don't I use it.... simple. Cost. If it were, say, £2 - I'd give it a go regardless. If enough people think like me (which I'm sure they do), then surely making it cheaper would make more money in the long run.

Anyway.... I think we (SF) should buy it. Let's all chip in. I have £3.42. Just 2bn - £3.42 to go ;)

Seeing your use of SF there - the local school back home has SF monogrammed jumpers - I wonder if I can get any cheap...?

Part of the reason the cost is seen as high by non-commercial users is intentional. If it were so cheap that anybody could use it without thinking then it would fill up and start to get congested at peak periods. Surely this would defeat the whole point in having it.

I'm quite happy with the price/traffic balance, as it allows me a reasonable degree of certainty on arrival times when travelling south of Birmingham, something which simply did not exist before. The cost gets passed on to the client as well, so win-win AFAIK.
