Wedgwood Building to close

Met an old friend for lunch who works at SSC. Staff were told a couple of weeks ago they are to be moved out of the wedgwood building in tipping street to be rehoused in tipping towers.

what I found interesting/ laughable was, the Staffs county council have no plan what to do with the building and there is apparently is only 4 desks to every 6 staff in the new buildings lol. The move is to happen by the end of the year.

Thread title edited, in case anybody searches for it.

Well with absence and holidays there's bound to be a surplus of desks.....

Can't they just take their desks with them when they move buildings? A bit like school kids carrying the chairs outside for sports day...

What do you expect from the public sector. No accountability and an almost zero percent chance of getting the sack of you feck up. But if you're clever and feck up sufficiently, they will reward you with early retirement and a generous pension.

Most of the people I know who work in Scaffoldshire Place seem to spend a lot of time 'working' from home.

Yes it is that building linked by Gramaisc on Google street view.

The '4 desks to 6 staff' comment earlier in this thread will be where a team or service has a 'hot desk' arrangement with staff not based in the office throughout the working day, anyone who is at their desk all day has an allocated desk - a situation that is reviewed annually.

With the new Entrust building on Riverway many staff have relocated there from other SCC offices including Staffordshire Place. There are areas within Staffordshire Place where other teams could relocate from Wedgwood Building (along with Walton Building, Peel Building and St Chads that are also in the plan) as there are very few staff left in these old offices.

I went over to Wedgwood Building the other week and literally saw 6 staff on floor 3, the lower ground floors do have a lot more staff, so it's actually a sensible decision to relocate to the newer offices, though the lack of an plan on what to do with the vacant buildings is no surprise, given they are so heavily interconnected not just room wise but for services too.

My friend mentioned the hot desk issue which always comes up and only works for people or are I think district based or out and about.

wedgwood building is full of administration staff and children's social services (includes my friend) who have no option to work from home. I am not sure I heard word for word but there is rumour the CE ( don't know who that is) released details without being cleared tee hee.

I forgot to add they is to include martin street.

Cannot see how they will get rid of the buildings, didn't they have to move back into the old registrars??
