There are potato peeling machines - or an attachment, if you have a Kenwood Chef.

I remember someone having a water powered one years ago, worked quite well - but, best avoided if you have a water meter.
They had a big old water powered one when I first started in the school kitchens. I was told to "go careful with them " as we hadn't got many potatoes to go around all the kids......no-one told me that the machine didn't stop once they were peeled.........just a few pea sized spuds remaining when I finally stopped the machine!

I've got that attachment for my Kenwood chef - works a treat (although it did take me a long time to work out you needed to put some water in the bowl to aid the peeling)

I've got a Kenwood 7 series from the 1960's - you can pick up attachments for it fairly easily on ebay.

Look for the model number - if it's an A7??, then you can try my peeler sometime. At that age, it should be compatible. It might not fit A9??s and later models. And it'll be too short to fit the Chef Major models.

It is an A701 a. It is a right manky old thing but I love it.
My mum won it in a raffle when I was a young girl and it was second hand then so I don't know how old it is. It belonged to the school kitchen and they were having a new one so they raffled the old one off.
A few years ago I broke the glass bowl and was gutted. I mamaged to find a plastic replacement on e bay.
It is not like me to be attached to an "old thing" but I have an odd affection for it and use it all the time. I used it today in fact to make a cake.

People peel potatoes? Why? Just throw 'em in the pan and eat them skin and all.
I haven't peeled a potato this century.

The boot sale is also a good source, if you don't need it now.

Particularly for 7 series attachments, and machines - though, 9 series stuff does appear, too.

Enjoying a drop of red.

I find there is considerable satisfaction to be had in making tools last. Not only does it save money but the newer stuff is just not built to last any more.

My wooden gardening trailer was purchased by my dad in 1961. It was second hand then...

Right, the proper blue and white one - my attachment will fit that.

If I can find it - it might be in Ireland......

Bowls appear at the boot sale. Plastic, glass and stainless steel.

An advantage of the water-powered ones was that there was no cleaning to be done, the constant rinsing did everything for you.

Went to Aldi Stafford yesterday, nice & clean & airy, but rammed full of zombies who didn't know what they were looking for...

...I was a bit disappointed that we couldn't find some of the usual stuff that we buy in Aldi Stone & overall I think it will be easier to stick to our monthly trip to Stone...

Lidl is still the best....

*edit - @Carole I know I sound incredibly thick, but how do you make your frozen mashed potatoes? I'm sick to death of throwing away sprouty potatoes because they've been forgotten about when I could of mashed & frozen them?

Mash them up as you usually would adding butter and milk then freeze.

Defrost then transfer to glass bowl. Microwave for a few minutes. At first they will look very watery, don't be put off just microwave for a bit longer. They then come out a bit drier than when they went in so you will need to add more butter and milk.

I went to Aldi this morning. I too was wandering around not knowing what I want, but not (necessarily) because I'm a zombie, but because it was my first visit to an Aldi and it is different. Got what I wanted in the end, paid much less than I would a comparable shop elsewhere and I was happy. Sorted.

Same here !

I'd walked down the last couple of days and got a few items but did my main shop there this morning. Nice wide spaces in the car park (A stupid woman in a big blue thing still had to have 3 goes at getting in the massive space next to me, and still parked over the white line! ). Not so busy this morning and we had a nice relaxing shop having a good look around at all the different things. Hubby normally hates shopping and can't wait to get out of the shops, but we came out ,still stress free , with a trolley load and could have spent a lot more if we'd got a bigger fridge and freezer.

Hubby impressed with his 8 yr old Whisky he popped in and bought last night. Says it's better than some of the Malts.

Called in the Wildwood Co-op on the way home just to get my Strongbows . Carpark nearly empty and the shop inside was even more quiet than normal. Can see it dying a death!
