Just for fun: With Bates Gun shop now sold, what would the forum like to see on the Market Square?

I will have a word with the new guy from the pub pub to see if he would like an illustration (my shout). If you want to do an illustration of the Square from a different angle, let me know and you can use the top floor to gain an interesting perspective of the square!! On that front, BBC Radio Stoke are doing an outside broadcast next week and would like to interview the owner of the new business. To date he is hiding his identity but do you all think it is about time to go public????

I love these old buildings and wouldn't mind doing one last one....... need to recharge the batteries after the ground floor as two more floors are awaiting my attention!
That be kind of you, thanks.

If it's an illustration style they like and it suits the walls of No.7, then great, if they like the style but would prefer a different angle, no problem, always happy to help.
I'll colour the artwork and post here.

I love so many of the buildings in Stafford, if someone out there is willing to save some (or many) from disrepair, then fantastic!!
The buildings deserve a knight, or knightess in shining armour, to help them out.

So is the name going to be 7, Number 7 or 7 Market Street? It seems to have been called all three in this thread.

7 Market Square - as already written over the door.

I believe.
Yes the new name will be "7 Market Square" and all the existing signage will remain as is. The new owner of the busines (already been correctly identified earlier in this thread) has told me today that he will be open in a very limited capacity next weekend then close with a view to fully open mid June once all the work has been completed.

@LLFC , is there news on whether a framed hanging sign is going to be reinstated?

When I drew 7 Market Square, I started to draw the exsisting bracket and only then did I wonder, uhh I wonder if they'll get a new sign?
It would look great, the cherry on the top!
Umm, I wonder who's the local sign maker?

I'm already looking forward to seeing inside, even if it's in a very limited capacity, on Saturday.

Yes the hanging sign will be used by the people on the top two floors which could well be a solicitor.

I hope he does get the bar open for this weekend.... even if it just selling bottles.... he has so much to do and decide upon.... I'm having a day off the normal job to help things along.... ground floor painters in tomorrow, basement is also being painted out ready for storage, Severn Trent in on Thursday (new stop cock in road), new lighting to follow the painters, new flooring TBC, bar suppliers TBC, cold room engineers on stand by......If he opens on Sat it will be a bit rough and ready!!!!

I for one will be in (or standing outside) having a sip, if they're selling!

They gotta open, even if it's in a small way, nothing a couple of pasting tables out front can't sort, heck, the stalls will be in the same boat pretty much.

A small sign to say what the deal is and the loving people of Stafford will fall head-over-heels for the place, I know I will, but I'm a little biased...
...it's a beauty of an old building in Stafford, turning into a micro pub!!

I really hope so too, like you say just bottles would be fine. On that note, can he sell to drink off premises? Would be an extra ale stall in its own building! It would be a good promotion too, local ale drinkers will be in the market square already so a kind of 'look whats coming' sort of thing would be great.

I hope there is cider!

I like the name 7 Market Square, I think this new micro pub will be great.
With our summer now here, it's going to look wonderful in the evenings.
Here's my illustration of George Bate Gunmakers, which shows a tiny part of the garden.
Does anyone here know who owns the garden between 7 Market Sq. and Market Vaults?

I think I'll illustratate the building from another angle, much like the picture @Gramaisc posted, though it looks great wherever you stand!
I've asked that question many times, with a view to buying it, it's like banging my head against a brick wall...

Saw the painters in today, and the windows being cleaned. Could do with a bar though!

Maybe just have a table outside the front door selling bottles, and put the plans of the new layout up in the windows for people to see?

Yes, noticed the painters, and the windows being cleaned, when I had a quick look in today. Seems like there's quite a bit to do before its ready to open. Looking forward to popping in when it is ready though.

Cannot setup outside without a temp mobile licenses (or something like that). He does have his license so could open doors and use the front area - almost like having an indoor stall.... but only so long as the insurance is in place. I do hope that he can get open as it is an ideal opportunity to get some good publicity.
